When Adam dropped me off at home, well actually he lives next door so we went over to his house, but he still walked me home. He walked me to the door and we said goodbye, but it was the longest goodbye I had ever given someone and the most rare. I don't think goodbye kisses are a normal thing.
I walked into my house with a huge smile plastered on my face.
“Hey, honey.” I heard a soft voice say from across the living room.
I jumped a little. “Oh, Mom! Don't do that, you scared me” I laughed and collapsed onto the couch with a happy sigh.
“Someone looks oddly happy, what's the deal?” She asked crouching into a sitting position.
I turned my head to face her and I sat up with my smile widening. “The deal is,” I begun saying “Adam and I are officially dating, Mother.”
Her eyes widened. “Are you for real?” My mom asked with a dragged tone to her words.
I rolled my eyes. “No, Mom, I'm for fakes.” I told her giggling. “Of course I’m serious! Can't you tell?”
“Well you do make it more than obvious, sweetheart. Now time to get serious with this. First off, I’m really happy for the both of you because my god everyone in this town already wanted to slap the both of you to wake up and get on with it, but this is where I get fatherly, Veronica-”
Before she could continue the lecture she was about to give me I stopped her. “Oh, no, do not even get into that. Mom, please, just. No. Don't.” I said snorting a laugh.
Attractive. I know.
“First of all I am not going to do anything with Adam until I'm completely ready, plus I'm a sophomore, lady, hold it with those thoughts,” I said thinking about what to say next, “Second of all, you said it yourself, the whole town knows how we feel about each other and if we do something, it will be real, Mom. Okay? I love him.” I told her smiling at the last part.
“Oh,” my mom said with her eyes watering , she got up to sit next to me and wrapped her arms around me. “My baby's growing up!” She stated shaking me.
I untangled myself from her and got up. “Yes, yes, and your baby's starving too!” I said patting my stomach like Tarzan and walking into the kitchen.
Mom sighed in disappointment. “Veronica, how do you do it?” She asked squinting her eyes when she looked at me.
“Do what?” I asked opening the refrigerator door and bending over to look for things to eat.
“You eat like a pig, Ronnie, not even. You eat like a monster. All you do is eat, and look at your figure, but one of these days, you're going to gain weight like never before.” She warned shaking her index finger at me.
I took out a container with spaghetti and a bowl. I reached for the blueberry pie in the freezer and the half eaten sandwich in the fridge. I looked at my mom's face and laughed. Seriously she had her jaw hanging open. I reached for the bag of chips in the cabinet and put it on the tray.
I smiled sarcastically at her. “Gee, thanks, Mother, but you know what? Eating is a serious thing to me and if I gain weight so be it! At least I will die happy knowing that I was able to enjoy the delicious taste of food.” I told her putting back the pie.
I would wait until after I’m done to eat that because then it will just melt and not taste as good. “Now, mommy dearest would you like to join my movie night and order orange chicken from that Chinese place?”
She glared as I walked into the living room with the food. “You are unbelievable.” She muttered dialing a number on her phone.
I smiled at her and searched through the cable until I found a good movie that had just started.
I can't even tell you the name of it, because I honestly wasn't paying attention.
My mind kept replaying my kisses with Adam and that only made a bright smile appear on my face. I had never been kissed like that.
All that time when our lips were dancing and melting into one, it was complete bliss and I couldn't get enough of it. Of him.
My life finally felt complete. It actually felt perfect. Even though there was a million flaws in it, Adam made it perfect. He was actually all I needed and I was finally able to call that gorgeous boy mine.
He made my heart beat like crazy that some day it might just eventually pop out of my chest. His eyes took me into a trance that felt like if I was going to heaven.
It was that moment right there, sitting on my couch and stuffing my face that I realized, no matter what happened I couldn't lose him. It would hurt too much and it would literally feel like my other half was missing.
I loved him. I really loved him, and that is what scared the hell out of me.
