Chapter 10-La Push

"Cullen," His expression was as if he had just finished listening to something melodic when he rolled down the window and unlocked the door. I wasn't expecting to sit with him but I took a seat in the car anyway. Spotting the cyan Claire De Lune case I assumed a song just ended when I arrived. "You must really like this." He hummed.

Immediately, I remembered the baseball game and a burst of adrenalline rushed inside me. A bright smile plastered on my face, "You came." Cullen turned to meet me, topaz eyes littering my gaze. "Yes."

"How was it?"

"It was good." He simply answered, accompanied with a small smile. "It was fun!" I exclaimed, turning my eyes to my lap and I suddenly felt like an excited child bragging to their guardian. "Sorry, your car." The side of my uniform was covered in dirt and I reached to get out, fearing the dirt would ruin the black, untarnished furnish. "No," I was tugged back and my breath hitched with the frigid feeling on my wrist, stopped by the entrancing eyes that met with mine. "It's fine." Entrancing and gentle.

I figured he wouldn't want to clean this mess up later, so a tinge of guilt hit that spark of adrenalline. His attitude certainly contrasted to the guy a month ago, who acted rudely at the hospital. But, I guess Cullen wasn't a tempered, nor materialistic guy. I found my breath when he released my wrist, "Are you always this cold?" I asked mindlessly.

"Uh, it's a...condition." He explained but it came out uncertain. Also, his topaz eyes held a question in it. They looked at me as if they had stumbled upon a quizzical problem. Was Cullen still trying to figure me out? Almost instantly, shaking himself out of his reveire Cullen asked, "Who else...did you invite?"

I tilted my head but answered. "Um...the big tall guy was my dad, he always went to my games no matter how busy he was." I didn't bother inviting mom. Contrary to dad, she never made it to any games. I suppose it was a mix of disinterest in the sport and probably me. I don't deny her love, I know there is some there but, I never had a connection with her. We were opposing characters. Her, a reserved author while me, an outgoing athlete--who tries to avoid writing when possible.

I stumbled upon my words when I remembered Edward was waiting. "And our family friends, the Blacks." I smiled, completing the list. Cullen, I read from his expression and sudden tensing, didn't feel comfortable with the name. It was easy to connect his actions to Jake's and Billy's. I don't think that was a coincidence. Do they happen to know each other?

"What's wrong?" Adjusting myself in the seat to face his rigid face I quirked a brow. "You know Jake and Billy?"

"Edward." I continued and waved my hand in front of his face when I got no reply. Suddenly, awaking out of his trance he grasped my wrist. I cringed; as becoming aware of the action he loosened his grip and gently set my hand down. Rubbing my wrist I gradually started to become offended, was something wrong? "Hey, Cullen..." I peered over and was unsuccessful for Cullen turned his face away from me, his hand covering his nose.

Opening my mouth and searching for an excuse in my mind I chuckled. "Uh, I'm probably sweating a lot. I'll just go." So, I reached for the handle and left with my bag in hand.

At home, I took a long shower and dressed in comfy pajamas. The joy of tomorrow would not leave me, I haven't spent time with my dad since last year's town Christmas play.

"So, what're we going to do?" I asked the next morning, close on dad's flank as we trudged down the stairs. He didn't answer until he was close enough to the remote. "Well," He started, flopping on the couch. "I'm going to watch the game. Had it recorded." Sending a smug smile my way, he gestured to the DVR.
I rolled my eyes, "Right. Don't have too much fun without me."
