-?Unknown?-

She watched the building burn as she ran. Blue flames licked the night sky calling to the moon, who in return, let a dim light shine down giving the city an eerie glow. An irritating laugh rang like church bells in her ears, unsuitable for a demon of that power. But it still managed to strike fear into her. Her grip became tighter around the wrist of the sobbing child she was dragging along with her. Her speed was too fast for him, making him trip on his dark cloak. His soft sobs were giving them less of a chance at escaping. But she knew his cries were out of confusion and loss.

Her mind ran her last few minutes in the facility before the boy and she ran. Screams were audible through her bedroom door. And that annoying laugh. But his voice sent shivers down her spine. "Emerald! Ore! Where are you!? Come here kiddies!"

Her heart pounded, instinctively she moved to the bed where the young boy, her brother, was fast asleep. The door burst open and in a flash her fists were up. But the intruder was not at the door. It was professor Marcus. He looked injured and bleeding like mad. Two dark cloaks stained red from his blood, were tucked under his stained red lab coat. A satchel laid across his shoulders. Their eyes met, his were wild with fear. Marcus sprinted to her, handed her a cloak which she quickly clipped it around her small shoulders, he picked up her brother, and ran behind her to the back door. Her brother groaned in confusion. He was waking up. Marcus laid her brother down, letting him stand; her brother's eyes filled with confusion. Marcus, who had already put her brother's cloak on him, put both of their cloak hoods up. He looked at her, and took off the satchel around his shoulder, and put it around her's. Marcus put a hand on her shoulder; and in a hushed voice filled with sadness said, "Athena...... I need you to take your brother and go as far away from here as you can."

Marcus always called her by the project name they gave her. Athena. Her brother was Ares. Experiments PallasAthena006 and Ares007. She looked at him and nodded. But she then noticed that the screams were reduced to moans of the dying. She hugged Marcus one last time before grabbing her brother's arm and running. She dared to look back and caught a glimpse of the intruder. A floating, gold triangle with a top hat and a bow tie. Basically, a giant fancy, flying, gold Dorito chip. But that didn't matter for Marcus was scared of it. So it must have been dangerous. Marcus closed the door just as he yelled, "Your too late Cipher! They're long gone! And to get through this door your gonna have go though me!"

She heard metal pounding on the door, Marcus was loosing the fight. There was a sharp male scream, sounding a lot like Marcus, and the building then burst in brilliant blue flames. Her heart cried out to Marcus, the only father-like figure she ever knew. Then a soft cry drew her attention to her brother. He was crying a river, looking his sister with sad, red eyes. She looked at him, pity filled her heart and she knew what she had to do. She had to get far away from here like Marcus told her to do; then, she had to toughen up and take care of her brother. They had to live. For Marcus, for all of her family. Warm tears brought her mind back. She then realized, she was crying. With her free hand she wiped them away, then let it fall to the side where the satchel laid bouncing around a bit as she ran. An alleyway was approaching. Cover, she prayed that the demon wouldn't find them in there. She sprinted the rest of the way, unusually, there weren't any cars on the road, no sirens of the local fire trucks, nothing. This made her uneasy, but she didn't have time to rethink. Once in the safety of the dark alleyway, she stopped, gasping for air. She then let go of her brother's wrist, and wrapped him in a hug, hoping she would be able to quiet him. He was as tall as her, which wasn't that tall, for they were only three. She stroked his head, and hushed him. "Ares, your okay. Everything is okay."

He shook his head and buried his face into her chest, making it so she could barely hear him speak. "Don't call me that. Only Marcus can call me that."
