He turns away, averting his gaze from the scene of his own doing. Clenching his jaw he strides away only a few steps for that's all he could take before his own body gave in from under him. The demon collapses to the ground, his eyes staring at the ground intently as if it may give him an answer as to why.
His throat tightens with unshed tears as his chest slowly expels all feeling except that of remorse. His hands curl into fists as he crumples into the earth trying to hold back the tears, the truth. No, he will not cry, a single tear shall not pass his eyes for demons do not cry, do not love. Love...is that the feeling the boy left him with? This horrible invisible monster that's eating away at his sanity and all that he thought he knew?
No. He's a demon, he can't feel what humans do, that thing they call 'love.' He, Sebastian Michaelis, isn't allowed to love since he's never encountered it. Until now.
Glancing over his shoulder he spares his deceased one last look before the misery tugs at his eyes threatening to break free. His blood drains out of him, his head becoming light as his eyes survey Ciel Phantomhive. The once powerful earl lies motionless in the moonlight; his once vast eyes now vacantly stare at the full moon illuminating him. His long fringe splays across his face most of it shielding his right eye. Blood begins to stop flowing from his many lacerations on his torso, a few even on his smooth face. The lips that had once barked orders now are parted wordlessly with unspoken screams and cries that Sebastian failed to reply.
For he had been too late, he didn't come in time.
Standing, Sebastian strides to his master stooping down to inspect him one last time. His eyes fall on the large blue diamond ring on the boy's thumb. Swiftly he slips it off and closes Ciel's eyes, that single misery sliding down his face as he slumps beside Ciel. Turning the ring around in his gloved hand he marvels at its beauty, the brilliant stone like Ciel's left eye had been, a lovely deep blue.
Gritting his teeth Sebastian internally scolds himself. 'Stop it!' he screams inside, 'Stop thinking about him like that! He was your master, a soul to be cultivated like swine to be eventually consumed, not something else.'
But as his eyes drift back to the body and another tear escapes him the internal rant suddenly sounds like lies bouncing around his head. As if someone else were thinking for him, telling him of illusions that he's never known. Of course he shouldn't have secretly fallen for his young master, but one cannot willingly choose these things. For even though he may be a demon it doesn't mean that he's heartless. His heart is very much alive and very empty, longing for the one that he failed moments ago.
Swallowing thickly another tear streams down his face, it's been so long since he's cried, really cried. Since emotion and untold feelings have developed a mind of their own, coming from him without his consent mocking him of his weakness. Extending a hand to Ciel he strokes his hair, the texture soft and silky, the boy doesn't stir as Sebastian strokes his face.
"...Ciel..." he calls softy, his voice not even sounding like his own, "...I should've said this before but..." he clears his throat of tears and sorrow, "...I love you and I'm sorry. The contract is broken..."
Shuttering in melancholy he shakes his head, the water in his eyes coming faster now, at an alarming rate. Uncontrolled sobs escape him, the sounds ragged and foreign. He hastily shoves the tears away but they continue to seep from him. How he wishes he could hear Ciel's voice again, to scoop the young earl into his arms and hold him. Just to hold him one more time, to feel his small heart beat against his chest, hear his breath in his ears and smell it's sweet odor. To hold him close from the dangers of everything and never let go. To never fail him again and tell him just how much he means to him. The need to maybe even kiss Ciel and surpass all rules of master and servant. For he'd give anything to right his wrongs, to attain his lost master, his lost love.
As he pulls back his hand his breath catches in his throat, the covenant, the deep purple inking in his ivory skin still gleams proudly.
No...it's not possible...there's no way that this of all impossibilities could've happened.
"...Sebastian?"
