4 am. You had been staring at these same pages for six god damn hours and had barley anything. In 1930, on July 8th a headline spoke of a tragic disappearance of an eight year old girl. Later throughout that year, nine more went missing. They were all seven through nine, and had never been found. In 1940, the same thing happened, ten children all around seven or eight. In 1950, same thing, 1960, same thing. This pattern continued all the way to 2010, the more years went by the more specific the articles became.

"April 3rd, 2010
Another child went missing last night, seven year old Annabelle was last seen playing at Rockwood park around four pm yesterday."

"Rockwood..." You whisper, puzzled. There wasn't a Rockwood park in this town, but these newspapers where from here. Confused you check again, Rockwood park. You dismiss it as a typo, and continue through that years news.

April 3rd, April 25th, June 9th, June 20th, July 30th, August 3rd, August 15th, September 9th, September 30th, all dates of the children who were taken. What you didn't understand was why this was happening five years later, instead of ten. You considered that it wasn't the same thing, but the pattern was too perfect, but why is it breaking pattern?

"Wait a minute." You say, flipping back through the dates. Nine. Nine children were abducted at that park, only nine.

"It missed a kid," you say to yourself, studying the dates "it only took nine."
You were on to something, you were getting closer. Sighing, you stack the papers and get up. Too exhausted to change, you flop down on your bed. You try your best to sleep that night, but all you could do was think about the tenth child.
