A warm feeling caressed my body and opened my mind to all my senses. Something was off. I could feel it. I didn't feel alone, and that scared me. I usually welcome the company of someone but the fact that I have no idea who this was and what they wanted, I would rather be alone.
Hello? I asked, hoping someone would hear me, but the echoing of my voice only rang through my head. I can't speak? At least I can breathe, even though I can't move.
Don't worry. I'm not here to harm you.
I looked for the voice that came to me, event though I wasn't actually looking. It was as though it was all in my head.
I watched as a figure, clothed in a long, black robe came forth towards me. A pale arm reached from inside the sanctuary of the robe and came up to rest of the hem of the hood of it. As it was pulled back I watched in shock as my gaze fell upon a female.
"Who are you?" I asked, fearing she would only answer my doubts, but thankfully she didn't.
"I am not the blonde you fear. I promise you of that."
I looked down and sighed, relief taking over and allowing my body to relax.
I couldn't help but note her features. Her pale, auburn hair went well with her skin tone but her eyes; the deep jade green color contrasted with everything in appearance, making her seem immortal. It was absolutely beautiful. To add onto her beauty, she had black face markings. They swirled around her eyes starting from in between her eyebrows. It was breath taking.
At first, I thought she could be disguised, but it was obvious she wasn't the blonde from my dream back in the mansion, she was much nicer.
"What are you here for?" I ask questioningly, my caution taking over again. I did not know this person and I was always told to never talk to strangers, but here I am, doing that exactly.
"I'm here to warn you," she answers calmly.
"Warn me of what exactly?"
Now the caution that served as a bubble of the only protection I had exploded and curiosity took its place.
Ever heard of the expression "Curiosity killed the cat"? Well that cat is me and I'm fairly sure that my own curiosity is going to be the death of me.
"The blonde you fear? She's coming after you," she says quietly.
"What? Why?" I was not liking the sound of that.
I swear, I felt like I was going insane. The voices in my head, well full on figures, were either haunting me, warning me, or trying to kill me! I'm losing it!
"So what do I do?" I ask. I wasn't about to die from an angry spirit or whatever the heck this blonde chick was.
"If you want help, I can give it. Except there is only one way you can obtain it."
"Sounds sketchy, but right now anything sounds better than dying. So what is it?"
I watched as she sighed and one of her hands reached inside her cloak. When she pulled out a long, shiny knife I started to rethink this whole being safe thing.
"W-what's that for?"
"For me to be able to protect you, you must bind yourself with me."
"I have to do what?"
Yeah, now I'm really starting to think I've lost it.
"You must bind yourself with me. That way I know we're you are, and if you're in danger," she simply stated as of the entire explanation didn't sound made up.
"So the knife comes into the picture how?"
"You have to cut yourself and let our blood mix. It'll hurt, yes, but once the process is complete, you will have complete protection until I die."
"I don't know if I didn't mention this before or not, but I don't like blood."
"Well you had better learn to, because whether I protect you or not, either way there will be blood shed. So do we have a deal?"
I looked down and pondered it. If I did this then I could very well live through it. But if I didn't, that psycho blonde could easily kill me in the blink of an eye.
A sigh escaped my mouth. I knew exactly what I had to do, and I didn't like it one bit.
"Give me the knife."
I held my hand out and when the cool metal touched my skin I unconsciously flinched.
I gripped the handle with one hand and took a deep breath before placing the blade against the palm of my other hand. Gently applying pressure resulted in the gritting of teeth and closing my eyes.
The blade went through my skin like it was nothing. The pain I felt traveled up my arm and slammed into me like a brick wall.
I don't remember much of what happened next since I normally start getting dizzy at the sight of blood, but I do remember someone grabbing my hand and a warm feeling spreading through my body, the pain fleeing quicker than it had come, and a sense of peace fell over me.
At that moment I knew I was safe. Nothing could touch me without feeling the wrath of my guardian.
