Walking into the house is a disaster. The new house has a strong smell of rotten salami. I wrinkled my nose in disgust.
"No way I'm living here," I thought.
"Raelynn! Help Dad unload the boxes!" Mom yelled from the car. Glad to be separated from the salami-house, I walked across the front porch to the moving man that just arrived this morning. I opened the gate for Dad as I stepped out. We just moved from Illinois to San Francisco because Dad just got fired. Again. But that is Dad's business, not mine. I got bullied a lot, everywhere I went. There are many things they said. From my name to my liking for books, I am totally not excited for school. The only thing I wish for is the hope of making friends. They will eventually turn their backs on me but, hey, just give it a shot, right? Getting a boyfriend is at the bottom of my list, although many girls my age have a date to prom. I'm just a freshman, graduated from Greenville Elementary. Way too young for a partner, right? Well, at least, that is what I think.
The living room filled up with our boxes of things rapidly. Mom decided we should have lunch. Mom wanted to go to the mall, since she wanted to buy new clothes for school, too.
As we walked along the pavement, I looked at my clothes. Blue converse, black jeans, a plain t-shirt, and a black watch with blue stripes. Not a bad outfit for school. Well, obviously I have to get more clothes since Mom said I am growing at a shocking rate. Nothing too flashy though, I don't fancy the idea of wearing flashy stuff to school, especially drawing attention from people.
"School is in a week!" My older brother, Colin Jester Jones, groaned loudly. He is very different from me. Two years older than me, interested in baseball, while volleyball is my number one sport. I turned my blue eyes to meet his green ones. I inherited mine from Mom, while Colin inherited Dad's. Colin got Mom's straight hair, and so did I, and that is probably the only thing we had in common. Colin and I walked side by side behind our parents.
The mall isn't far away really. By the time we got there, we haven't even had a single drop of sweat. The cool air-conditioning met us as we strolled in. Mom and Dad turned around to meet us.
"Lunch. Clothes. Groceries. That is what we are doing today," Dad said. We all nodded in agreement.
Nothing too fancy when you just moved in. We went off to the food court, where Dad handed us 5 bucks each for lunch. I just walked around before stopping for my favorite cruise, Japanese. Sushi, Udon noodles, or eel rice? They are my top favorite dishes. A few customers later, I finally decided on the eel rice. Seems pretty delicious, I thought. The plate was set on the tray in front of me. Th...Th...The eye is still on the eel... I walked briskly back to the table where Colin and Dad were sitting. They looked at what I got.
"Seriously Rae?" Colin raised an eyebrow.
"It wasn't like that on the menu!" I protested.
"Sit down, sit down. Just get rid of the eye and remember to not order it next time," Dad said in the midst of our arguing.
We set off to Uniqlo, Mom's favorite clothing brand while I yearned to go to Bossini. It has been a year since I've been there, and my limits of pants are getting lesser nowadays. I saw many girls and dreaded the idea if they were on my classmates. Looking on the positive side, they might be from some school for girls with killer shoes.
"You guys just go around and choose whatever you want, but only 3 shirts and 2 pants. No more than that. Do I make myself clear?" Mom's blue eyes scanned us. "Oh, and meet us at the counter at one."
"Yes Mom," we said in unison.
We parted our ways. I just wandered around the store. I really need to stock up on pants. Mom mentioned that we could only buy two pants. One long on short. Makes sense. Everyone seemed to be making a beeline towards the back of the store. I'm considered pretty tall, but not tall enough to see what is going on. I tapped a girl's shoulder in front of me.
"Um, excuse me, do you know what's going on?" I inquired.
"You are like, so behind on sales. Ugh. How do people like you even survive?!" The girl said in a squeaky voice as she rolled her eyes.
Gee, why so harsh?
Probably the reason why I hate red heads so much.
Her long wavy red hair that must've been through hours of treatment swayed as she fought her way to the front. I continued walking around until I came across the rack that holds black jeans.
Every winter shopping I ask Mom if I could buy black jeans. The golden object is just right in front of me. I got excited. They are many varieties. The belt or no belt? No belt would be more convenient. There are so many to choose from. I finally chose one and took it off the shelf. Turning around, I banged into a guy.
"Sorry," I mumbled, raising to look at his face.
"It's ok," I heard him say, with that deep accent of his. He has that cropped auburn hair. I gotta say he is hot, but not my type. His brown eyes did not exactly match his hair color. But it doesn't matter. I shuffled away.
Do I have a crush on him?
Nope.
As I mentioned he isn't my type. My life was never full of romance anyways. My first crush went to shreds (Don't ask me for the details). I strode around the store.
Three pants and two shirts later, I walked around the shop searching for Colin. I turned around the corner and what do I find? Colin with a bunch of girls.
"I think you ladies cute like cute-cumber," Colin winked at them.
Cringy enough when he winks but his puns make me want to throw up. As usual, the ladies fall heads over heels for him. I hear this a million times so no, I am not one of them. Also, throw in the fact that he is my brother. My favorite part about this, however, is the opportunity to embarrass him. I turn around and see the same auburn guy I bumped into earlier. I walked up to him and offered five bucks to go womanize with the audience my brother has.
He walks up to the girls and puts his arms around their waists, lifting two of them up. I was standing about 30 feet away so I can't hear what he was saying. All I know was that the girls had their attention directed towards auburn dude now. Colin looked around and saw me smirking at him. He was steaming and stormed towards me, fuming.
"Best investment of five bucks I have ever made in my life. I was actually surprised he did it for such a low price," I said.
"Yeah, well you could save five bucks and I would get their numbers," Colin retorted.
"Whatever let's go," I replied before turning around towards the cashier, fully aware of Colin grumbling behind me. I grinned, probably looking like an idiot.
Groceries were a breeze, well except for the fact that Mom couldn't decide between two different brands of tomato sauce. We had to carry all of the groceries to the car, and I bet Dad's bank account is almost empty. Oh well, at least I can lock myself in the house and not go hungry for the next few weeks. Hopefully, the food doesn't expire. Mom, did you check the expiration date?
At night, I climbed in my sleeping bag and closed my eyes. First day of my new life. Done.
