The door swinging open startled her from her concentration, it wasn't common to have people just walk through her door without knocking, "Damion, what are you doing here?" she asked.

"Amelia, I need you to understand, w

whatever happens, whoever comes knocking, I've been here for at least an hour."

Amelia didn't question, her head simply nodded in understanding, "alright."

Damion sat down on a chair, his face falling slightly, "its just been so tough Amelia, I mean, I know she's gone, but nothing seems to be able to mask the pain."

"Damion, I'm very sorry, she was my best friend, we both lost someone dear to us that day, but what happened today?"

The man's head shook slightly, "you probably don't want to know actually, its terrible what I did out there, but like I said, please just cover for me."

A million thoughts ran through Amelia's head, he could have stollen something, or killed someone, and that was the thought that haunted her mind.

What if he killed someone?

What if they - whoever they may be - knew that she was lying

Amelia wasn't a very good liar, even when it came to protecting the people she cared most about, and that is how she ended up living in the United States.

There was a loud knock on the door, Amelia rushed over, and was bombarded with questioning as soon as she has, "Amelia Van Bronsen?" a man in a police uniform greeted her.

"Yes," she replied, tilting her head.

"It comes with a heavy heart to us that we must inform you, your husband has been found murdered in the woods."

"I don't have a husband," Amelia looked at the man confused.

The police officer nodded and Amelia looked back at Damion sitting in the chair, and when she turned back to them, the two cops were gone, disappeared just as quickly as they'd come, leaving no signs that they'd ever been there in the first place.

"Damion, those cops... Do... Who was the man that was murdered in the woods? They seem to think it was my husband, I don't have a husband."

"Who thinks that Any?"

"The police officer, you didn't just see them?"

Damion's face contorted into something that Amelia couldn't quite read, "there was nobody there. I think you should get some rest, I'll stay here for you."

No matter how much she tried though, Amelia couldn't shake the growing feeling of dread in her heart, or the pit in her stomach.

What just happened?
