This could be really confusing if I don't explain it a bit, so I wrote a prologue.
Enjoy!

It was Dean Winchester's first year of middle school, and he was starting at a brand new school in a place where he knew no one. His dad had tried to convince him this was a good thing.
"C'mon, Dean. This'll be a good thing." John had said. "You'll make new friends. And you don't have to share a room with Sammy anymore."
"I like my old friends. And I like sharing a room with Sam." Dean had said back. His father gave up on trying after that.
"This is going to happen whether you like it or not. Deal with it, Dean, and don't act like a child about this."
Dean perked up slightly when he found out there was a boy close to his age living right next door.
"I wonder if he likes cars. Do ya think he likes cars?" He asked his brother in the backseat on the way to the new house. Sammy sighed.
"I don't know, Dean. We'll have to wait to find out." Sam answered the same thing he had been saying to all of Dean's questions about the boy. Dean was practically bouncing in his seat with excitement as he saw the boy playing in the yard next door as they pulled up to the new house.
"Dad?" Dean gestured to the boy, asking I he could go talk to him. His dad nodded. Dean ran into the other yard.
"Hi!" He said, holding out his hand to the other boy for a shake. "I'm Dean Winchester!" The other boy took his hand and shook it.
"My name is Castiel." He said, somewhat formally. "It's nice to meet you."
"Yeah, same." Dean started rambling on about all the things they could do with the rest of the summer before school started, and they became instant best friends. The houses in their neighborhood were so close together that, if he was careful, Dean could climb into Castiel's bedroom window from his own. Within the first two weeks of the Winchesters living next door to Castiel, Dean had tied a rope ladder to Cas's window so they could sneak out on late night adventures. Sometimes they took Sam with them, but most of the time they didn't, and Sam understood that Dean and Castiel's friendship was something special that he didn't want to get in between. He was a little upset the first time Dean snuck out without telling him, though.
"What are you doing?" Sam stood in Dean's bedroom doorway with his arms crossed.
"I'm gonna go see Cas." Dean said, as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. To him it was. To Sam, not so much.
"You're not taking me?" Sam asked, pouting.
"Not this time, bud." Dean said kindly. "Just me and Cas." Sam frowned at Dean'a words.
"But I always go."
"We're going really far tonight, Sammy. I promise we'll do something tomorrow, just me and you." Dean explained calmly. "Don't be immature about this, brother." Sam nodded, and after that, never questioned Dean going out without him at night again.
