He slammed the phone angrily against the wall, scattering pieces across his room. It's been four days now, four days of anguish, four days of desperation. She had moved out with Athena, and staying over at Phoebe's place. Many a times he used to stop by Phoebe's house, his nervous fingers lingering on the door bell only to back away like a wuss he was.

Her words I hate you playing repeatedly in his head like a broken tape. He angrily tugged his hair, as he faced the lash of rain splashing against his face. Then he said something, something he hadn't said to a woman in a very, very long time.

"I'm sorry, Evelyn. Forgive me". His apology long lost in the echo of the unforgiving rain. He had every intention of marking her that night, to make her his own. He would never forget how her eyes were foggy with pleasure, her body relaxed, and how easily he destroyed her trust, crushed her soul, then ground it under his boot.

Now all because he couldn't keep it in his pants, he'd taken the pride she'd rebuilt scrap by scrap, and he wasn't sure she could ever forgive him for that. Amidst wallowing in self pity, a loud knock on the door brought him out of his reverie.

Joey walked in, warily looking at his Alpha and his best friend. He looked like he could really use a friend, and a shower too, perhaps. His eyes rimmed in red, a growing stubble and an empty bottle of whiskey adorning his desk piling up with paperwork, were never a good sign.

This is bad, very bad.

His eyes looked at him in desperation, and Joey wasn't able to veil the shock from his face. Ares was many things, but being desperate and forlorn was not one of them. Alphas of Warrior pack are not passed through bloodline, they are singled out and selected based on their dexterity with combat, peace keeping, tracking and hunting. So this man who is worthy of this title, who can easily annihilate an entire pack, is now clueless when it comes to a woman who is half is size.

"So are you gonna mope about it or grow some balls and do something about it?" Joey gingerly questioned, testing his mood. He got his reply from his cold, hard stare. It was so obvious, they both were downright miserable without each other, and the generally moody Alpha was beginning to grow about as intolerable as an old grumpy man.

Joey knew he needed to do something, and he needed to do it now.

Evelyn hadn't seen or heard from him for four days. This was not affecting her, not at all, he's as disposable to her as Kleenex. Yes he's like a dirty, snot filled Kleenex to me.
Who needs a man to complete her life? Who cares if that man fills that gaping void within her and if he is her mate, tailored perfectly for her body and soul?

Who cares? Who cares at all?

Not me.
