Kristine breathed in the warm summer air as she walked the familiar meandering pathway. Her long hair cascaded down her back and over her shoulders in soft auburn waves. A gentle breeze grazed her fair complexion, causing her black knee-length skirt to ripple slightly with the air currents. The golden sunlight illuminated her sad eyes, which reflected the light with a dazzling array of blues, greens, and golds accented with flecks of hazel.
The sound of a river rushing in the distance became more apparent with each step Kristine took. Finally, she came to a clearing in the forest. She sat among the flowers and long grass, letting her mind wander as she laid back and closed her eyes. Her breathing became slow and steady, and soon she had fallen asleep.

Kristine awoke with a gentle fluttering of the lashes. Sitting up, she saw that dusk was upon her, with nightfall not far behind. She plucked a stray blade of grass from her hair and gazed up at the sky to find one solitary star twinkling fervently, contrasting delicately and precisely against the infinitely vast, darkening sky. Others appeared one by one, and before long the heavens were illuminated with billions of these brilliant flecks of light.
As she watched the stars, there came a faint rustling from behind. She turned her attention to the trees, searching for the source, and saw...a boy. He seemed about her age, with wavy black hair and complexion pale in the moonlight. He wore what appeared to be dark jeans and a black hoodie. She stood to approach him, never looking away as she did so. The boy stared coolly back, seemingly unfazed in this strange situation; however, she could sense fear in his eyes.
Why would he be afraid of me? Curiosity sparked in her mind. Before she could ponder the thought much longer, the boy had started running away. She ran after him, determined to find out who he was and what he was doing there.

The Boy's P.O.V.

Jace's heart began to beat rapidly, panic coursing through him as the girl stood and came his direction. He willed his body to move, knowing he'd made a blunder of massive proportion in letting himself be detected.
Shit, he thought, the others won't be very happy about this...
His feet finally came out of their seemingly paralyzed state, and he bolted off as fast as he could. He could hear the girl give chase behind him, but he was sure he'd be able to outrun her. He glanced behind him, only to find that the girl was keeping steady pace with him, if not gaining on him. Fortunately, he was coming up to the portal between Slender Forest and the human dimension. With just a few more steps and a quick dart to his left, he was transported back to Slender Forest.
After taking a moment to catch his breath, he continued back to the mansion. Dread filled him as he contemplated the talk which he knew was mandatory to have with Slender.
