Samuel stared down at me. He urged me to climb the tree. I was too afraid of scaring myself to even dare. Samuel never cared about scars or bruises, since he had so many.
He had already reached a high branch on the tree. I looked up at him and he gave me an assuring smile. I bit my bottom lip before I began to climb the tree.
Once I reached the spot Samuel choose, I became instantly scared. My heart began to beat at a rapid pace. Samuel clutched my arm.
"It's okay, okay. Everything's fine." He said touching my cheek. My heart slowed down and I licked my lips. "This is our tree now." He said letting out a soft laugh.
"We'll climb it every day, till we die." I said smiling. Samuel nodded.
Samuel jumped down and I followed close behind. "The sun's setting, I gotta get back home," Samuel said. We hopped onto our bikes and rode down the hill.
We left our tree, but we did climb it every day. Not till our deaths, but till high school.
Samuel laughed and screamed as we rode to his house. I laughed, too. His laugh always made me laugh ten times louder.
We stopped at his house. We stopped everything. The laughter, the screaming, all of it. Samuel's breath was loud and heavy. We were both scared. Mostly me. Samuel had always been one to fight back.
"Kiss me," Samuel said before entering his house. I gave him a puzzled look. I supposed it felt right, I wanted to. He moved the curly hair out of my eyes. "Hurry before my dad sees."
I nodded quickly. I was shaking and my stomach was doing flips. He grabbed me by the waist and pulled me in.
"Don't be scared, Logan." He said before his lips landed onto mine.
I was stiff at first. The only person who's ever kissed me outside of family had been June Granes and that was a dare. I went with Samuel's flow. He knew what he was doing.
I wrapped my arms around his neck. And put my hands in his hair. It felt so right, but I was still nervous. He was different from June.
Samuel's front door opened and Samuel jumped away from me. Samuel became stiff, he fixed his posture and clenched his fists. His dad began to yell. He swore at me and I blinked back tears.
Samuel took full blame for it. Samuel's dad yanked him into their home. Samuel didn't cry. Though I can never forget the look he gave me.
I didn't see Samuel until school started, months later. He had a scar on his arm. Deep, it was stitched back together.
"Don't worry about it, Logan." He said to me touching my cheek. "I'm handling it." He quickly kissed my cheek before going to his class.
I worried about it.
