The clock was ticking, and in a matter of a few minutes, a new year would come promising new beginnings. Delilah was still running from her past by trying to avoid her nuisance of an ex that was trying to get back together with her at the party. She had unwillingly obliged to go to the party, telling herself that she would vow to be more adventurous in her college life than her high school life. It had been going well until her ex boyfriend Mark decided that cheating on her was a mistake and that he wanted her to take him back. She thought bitterly about finding him hooking up with another girl in the bathroom stall (talk about unhygienic and unclassy). But she vowed that things would get better and she would not fall back into his clutches. Back to the party she was standing there bored fussing with her deep brown curly hair that drove her crazy, but she knew that she wouldn't want it any other way. She looked uninterested as she sipped from her red solo cup and stared at the room full of gyrating bodies and drunks that graces her eyes. Suddenly she spotted her friend Jake who dragged her to the party. Jake was an overall good guy, but too much of a player for her to be interested. With his dark brown hair and mesmerizing brownish green eyes, it was no wonder how every girl managed to fall at his feet. Not Delilah though, they formed a mutual bond through their psych class and it didn't go any further than that, if anything she was his wing girl and she happily obliged to helping him get his girl for the week.

"Jake" Delilah nodded as he walked towards her

"Hey Liliah, you look like your having the time of your life" he smirked

She rolled her eyes at his remark, they both knew that she wasn't a huge fan of the party scene, but more of the designated driver/babysitter of the night.

"So who are you babysitting tonight?" He inquired showing full interest

"Ah you know the usual, Bree wanted to go out and I had nothing better to do" She replied casually not mentioning that her ex was here also and that she was hiding

"Hmm" he looked deep in thought and suddenly Delilah spotted the unlikely guest.

"Hey, you know you could probably think better in the kitchen" she urged as she started grabbing his arm

"Hey! Woah, what's up with you tonight" Jake curiously asked as he let her drag him into the kitchen.

"Okay, so Mark is here and I didn't want you to flip out so I didn't tell you".

Jake was very protective of his friends including Delilah and when he heard why exactly she and Mark broke up, he was ready to go out for blood, especially when he found her crying because of it.

Jake paused and looked very thoughtful, looking into Delilah's desperate eyes that were pleading him to not cause a scene with him, finally he spoke.

"Ugh, fine, I won't do anything to that douche, but if he goes anywhere near you I don't have any promises"

A sigh flew from Delilah's lips as she thanked him for his kindness and then they both looked at the time as it was nearing 12.

"Hey we should go back to the party, the countdown is going to be on soon" Jake smiled at her.

Delilah rolled her eyes "yeah I'll be right there, I just have to go get Bree from wherever she is"

They both parted ways as they left the kitchen and Delilah easily spotted her friend by her dyed dark red hair and energetic persona. She had been in the pool room cheering some guys on, a little tipsy, but not far gone.

"Bree C'mon the countdowns gonna start, don't you want to see it"

Delilah prodded her friend as she tried to drag her out of the room and away from the leering eyes.

Bree pouted "Just one more shot and I'll be right there"

Delilah shook her head as she watched Bree giddily take her shot and skip happily out of the room. Her friends were crazy, but she loved them.
She didn't notice someone creep behind her until she felt someone's hands wrap around her waist. She realized it was Mark and she pushed his hands off of her waist and left the room knowing that he would want to follow up and let her listen to his scheming ways.

"Delilah, Wait up!"

She pushed through bodies and she could hear the countdown going off

10

She passed through more bodies

9

She saw someone doing a body shot to her left

8

Some couple were to eager to wait and we're doing their New Years kiss early, but it was more like them eating each others face off

7

Someone was taking the keg upside down and people were cheering him on
6

She spotted Jake a couple of feet from her talking up a girl, probably trying to get that New Years kiss

5, 4

She looked back and unfortunately Mark was getting too close

3

She pushed through the bodies to get to Jake and finally reached him

2

She turned him around forcefully and he looked at her shocked

1

She pulled him in for a kiss, and she was slightly shocked as he happily obliged, grabbing her waist and pulling her in, what meant to be a 2 second kiss turned into a little make out session.

The girl that was flirting with Jake was annoyed and left.

Mark stood there dumbstruck and then turned to leave

"Well, at least take me to dinner first"

Jake smirked as they finished kissing both of them with their foreheads touching sharing a knowing smile.

"Well this might be a good year after all" Delilah smiled knowingly
