"Lacey! Lacey, you're going to be late!" My mother shouts as she barges into my room. My eyes slowly flutter open and I take a minute to grasp what is happening. I hear a ringing that won't go away. At first I believe I'm making the noise up until I look to my night stand and realize the alarm on my phone is making that noise. I grab my phone and turn off the alarm as my mother throws open the curtains that had been shielding me from the blinding light outside.

"Ugh, Mom! Close them!" I yell as I turn over in my bed and throw the covers over my face to shield my eyes. I feel the covers being ripped off me, but I keep my eyes sealed shut.

"Lacey! It's almost 7:30! You are going to be late! It's your last day of senior year, do you really want to miss all the festivities?" My mother sits next to me on my bed. I can't imagine it is almost 7:30, my alarm goes off at 6:30 every morning, there is no way I slept through almost an hour of that irritating ringing. I clicked my iPhone's home button and sure enough the lock screen read 7:24.

Shit.

I jumped out of my bed and ran to my closet. Thank god I planned ahead and already knew what outfit I was wearing. I pulled my t-shirt and soffee shorts off. I rip off my sports bra and grab the white, strapless one from my drawer as I make my way towards my closet. I clasp the back and reach into my closet to retrieve my favorite white, floral-patterned strapless dress. I zip up the back and grab my beat-up white converse. I ram my feet into them as I make my way out of my room. They still fit perfectly after all these years.

As I reach the bathroom, I thank the lord I showered last night since I had absolutely no time this morning. My hair was a bit knotty, but I brushed it out swiftly and ran my straightening iron over it. After unplugging the iron I pat my cheeks with concealer and also cover the patch of acne on my forehead where I have broken out.

Damn hormones. I internally groan as I close the pallet and reach for my eyeliner. I line the bottom eye then swiftly run mascara over the top eyelashes. I'm not one for heaps and heaps of make-up but simple eye makeup and concealer makes me feel a little better then going into public with a naked face.

I take a minute to ensure I approve of my look. My hair looks good, falling to just below my chest and my green eyes seem to be brighter than usual. The dress slims me down and comes to mid-thigh. I smile at myself, content with my appearance, and head down to the kitchen. I reach the bottom of the stairs and the sweet scent of cinnamon hits me like a brick wall.

I follow my nose to the kitchen where I see my mother had just pulled some of her home made cinnabuns from the oven. Oh how I love having a pastry chef for a mother. I reach to snatch one off the plate but she smacks my hand away first.

"Hot! Lacey did you not just watch me pull them out of the oven?" She rolls her eyes and turns away from me. I check my phone again. 7:29. If i don't leave in the next 6 minutes I will be late and that is not happening, not today. I grab my brown over-the-shoulder bag off the counter and toss my phone in. Checking to make sure mother is not looking, I grab one of the pastries and head for the front door. I snatch my keys off our key-rack and call a goodbye to my mom as I shut the door behind me.

It is a bit warmer outside than in my house but not too brutal thanks to a slight breeze. I reach my dark blue Jeep and hop into the drivers side. I place my bag in the back and turn on the car. I decide to take a bite of the cinnabun just to calm my growling stomach. I pull out of my driveway and begin the drive to school.

"Lacey!" I hear my best friend, Monica, call from behind me. Just before reaching the steps to the front of Monroe High, I turn around to see my best friend bouncing towards me. She looked gorgeous in her plain, sky colored dress. The color complimented her tan skin well. Her hair was in curls and reached just to the top of her shoulder.
