Trigger Warning: Death and emotional breakdown, do not read if you're easily affected by any of those things, your health and well being is more important than you think
Everyone was quiet as they made their way through the cemetery, getting soaked by the falling rain in the process. Someone had offered Dan Howell an umbrella, but he declined, his face completely blank.
His parents were next to him, his mother still crying while his father tried his best to comfort her. Dan didn't even bother trying to help, he knew it was hopeless.
A few of his neighbors and old classmates had shown up, though he didn't know why. He never really spoke to him, so why did they even bother to come?
Cause people only care for someone after they're gone
They finally arrived at their location and the men had put down the large box that held Dan's young brother. As they past them, they gave him and his parents sympathetic smiles. His parents returned the gesture, Dan just kept staring at the casket.
'I told him we'd go together', he thought. 'He had agreed that if he were to go, then I'd go with him.'
The priest began speaking, but he didn't even pay attention. They had already gone through this before at the church, why did they have to repeat practically the same words again?
Because they think the more they say it, the more likely he'll go to heaven
"Dear god, please keep Alex safe," the Priest continued, "and please let him know that he was loved, that he will be dearly missed-"
Dan scoffed, which prompted everyone to look at him. "Sure, they'll miss him now," he said, "but they didn't seem to miss him when he went missing for three days."
"Daniel" his father whispered threateningly.
"What, you know it's the truth" he said, turning to look at him. "or do you just not want to admit just how shít of a father you were to him?"
His father went silent, staring at him with obvious anger and shock in his eyes as Dan just scoffed again.
Dan then turned to everyone else around him. "Oh don't worry, you're all no different either. He told just how much you all 'cared' and how often you 'missed' him whenever he just disappeared." He let out a dry laugh, "You're all horrible, I hope you know that." He felt tears coming, but held them back. "You all think that if you just attend his funeral, say a few nice things about him, and maybe show some sort of respect towards his family, then maybe you'd be forgiven, and you'll be cleanse or some shít."
He licked his lips, looking at everyone for any sort of response, then continued when they said nothing. "Well, I'm sorry to inform you, but just pretending you gave a cràp when it's already too late won't fûcking bring him back." His voice cracked at the end if his sentence and he began walking through the crowd, pushing everyone out of his way.
As soon as he was at a safe distance, he fell at his knees and completely broke. His body shaking with sobs and he cried out his now dead brother's name. He repeatedly hit the ground, saying that he was sorry, as if it would change anything, while they buried his little brother 6 feet underground, a mere 5 yards away from him.
-Well that was emotional. Sorry to anyone that I just sorta made cried, if that's even a proper sentence.
I wrote this at like, midnight, and I thought 'hey, why not make the prologue incredibly sad and heartbreaking, that's always fun,'
I know, I'm aware of my mistakes.Either way, I hope you somehow enjoyed this, which is pretty difficult considering it's really sad.
And before you ask, yes I changed Dan's brother's name to Alex, mostly because I just didn't really feel comfortable using his actual name due to reasons (reasons we shouldn't really talk about, but if you're honestly that curious then just PM me and then afterwards we'll pretend nothing happened)
I'll hopefully be updating this frequently very soon, meaning when school isn't killing me with stress (or when I procrastinate) so if this prologued intrigued you, then why it add it to your library and see what happens? (Or not, cause it was utter cràp tbh)
And this A/N is really long now (kudos to you if you read the whole thing, you get a Jonas Brothers sticker [I miss them man]) so to end it off, let me remind you to take care of yourselves and to have a great day/night/whatever it is in your current location, yay
