Today was the first time I saw snow. It never snowed on the Island and I was excited when I saw it outside my room. My mom brought me outside where there was already a layer of snow on the ground. I smiled and stuck my tongue out to catch the falling snow. I smiled and held my hand out, watching the white flakes fall softly.
"It's pretty, isn't it?" My mom asked.
I turned to her, smiling. "Yes, yes it is."
"Come on, there's a park in the rich district you can play in," my mom said.
My eyes widened and my smile grew. "Can we go there please?"
My mom nodded, a smile spreading across her face. "Yes, we can leave right after I pack us lunch."
I followed my mom back inside and helped her pack lunch. I helped her make the food and pack it into a basket. We then put on warm clothes and walked out of the castle. My mom carried the basket in one hand and I held onto her other hand as we walked through the snow covered town towards the park. When we got there, I saw that it was a huge field covered in snow. My mom led me under a tree where the grass was visible. We set down a blanket and put the basket on top. I then walked out from under the tree and into the snow. Looking around, I saw kids of all ages playing in the snow. I smiled and grabbed some snow in my gloved hands. I found that you could shape it easily and made a ball. I set it down and made another and another and another until I had a pyramid of them. Each time I made them, they looked more and more like a sphere. I smiled and continued to make snowballs.
I stopped making snowballs when I got bored of it. I heard my mom calling my name and ran over to her. We ate lunch and we walked out into the snow. Together we made what she called a snowman and threw my snowballs at it. We even made a game out of it. The goal of the game is to see who can knock the head off of the snowman the fastest. I won three times and my mom won once.
"How are you beating me?" My mom asked.
"Oh I forgot to tell you, I'm a Shifter," I answered.
Out of the corner of my eye I saw my mom look down at me with round eyes. "You were a born Shifter?" She asked.
I nodded and looked at her, confused. "Yeah. Isn't everyone?"
My mom shook her head. "Not everyone. I wasn't."
"What about my dad?" I asked. "Was he a born Shifter?"
"Why don't you ask him yourself," a male voice said behind me.
I turned around and saw a man in knight's armor standing behind me. He had black eyes and brown hair that went to his shoulders. He had a sword at his side and a duffel bag on his back. I heard my mom move and saw her stand up behind me. I watched as she slowly walked towards the man.
"Caleb?" She asked.
The man hugged my mom and my mom hugged back. I walked up to them, confused. "Mom who is this?" I asked.
The two looked down at me. "Alex, this is your father, Caleb," my mother answered.
The man kneeled down in front of me, smiling. "Your mother told me all about you," he said. He moved a piece of my hair behind my ear. "You're so beautiful."
I smiled back and hugged him, ignoring the cold of his armor. I felt him hug back and stand up. I wrapped my legs around him and didn't let go. I felt someone else on my side but didn't move. I finally met both my parents and we were back together. I don't know how this day could get any better than this moment.
