Aralyn:
I looked at myself in the mirror. My wavy blond hair fell in perfect ringlets to my shoulders. I stared in the eyes of my reflection. I knew I’d be standing here someday, but this day has come to soon, and for all the wrong reasons.
My wedding dress was an off-the-shoulder sweep length ball gown. It was bright white, made with the finest silk. The dress perfectly formed to my curves, and fell flawlessly just below my hips like a waterfall that sashayed in little wavelets to the floor as I walked. On my head was a crystal tiara encrusted with diamonds and sapphires that matched the color of my eyes. I gracefully walked towards the door, my short train flowing behind me.
I opened the door to see my father, Ashe, standing at the door, with my youngest sister and flower girl Pacifica. She smiled at me, looking angelic. Well, we were Angels, so it wasn’t hard. Only Elders had wings, so that wasn’t something I’d have to worry about for a while.
The music started and we knew it was time. Pacifica gave me one last small smile as she turned around and began her decent down the small spiral, tossing black iris and lily petals. My father held out his arm and I took it as we began our decent.
As we reached the bottom, I saw the man I was to marry. Sebastian Michaelis; the stunning Demon prince whom I wasn’t to marry for love.
I was to marry him to end a war our grandparents had started.
Sebastian:
I watched her float elegantly down the stairs. She looked perfect, from the way the dress contoured to her body, to the way the tiara brought out the exact color of her eyes. Any man would be lucky to have her.
That man just didn’t happen to be me.
I hated her from the moment I learned who she was, and what that meant for me. The smart, diplomatic beauty was the girl I was forced to marry, to end bickering among our people.
My sister Thalia stood beside me, her blood red hair in delicate ringlets. She hated this as much as I did, because it was still undecided if she would marry Adley, as a sort of double insurance in case something happened to me or Aralyn.
Aralyn looked about as thrilled as I felt. When told that we were to marry, she had just looked our parents in the eye, and nodded, saying, “Whatever I must do to stop the strife among our kingdoms.”
I had not taken it so well. I went into a rage, breaking every vase and porcelain object from the sitting room to my room.
After I had calmed down (and after all the expensive porcelain was cleaned up), I came back down to the sitting room and listened to my mother and father argue with Ashe and Angela about the details of the wedding.
That was four months ago. Everyone wanted us wed quickly, to end the bloody war that had plagued our lands for many years.
I was snapped out of my thoughts to see Aralyn was standing right beside me.
The procession itself was rather dull, with the priest droning on and on about things that a normal married couple would have found important, but didn’t concern Aralyn or I. ‘To love each other unconditionally,’ it didn’t concern us. Even Aralyn seemed to zone out up until it came to the ring exchange.
“Do you, Sebastian Vladmir Michaelis, take Aralyn Kaytin Bianco to be your lawfully wedded wife, for better and worse, in sickness and health, to love and to hold til death do you part?”
I tried to put some emotion in my voice as I faked a smile and said, “I do.”
“And do you, Aralyn Kaytin Bianco, take Sebastian Vladmir Michaelis to be your lawfully wedded husband, for better and worse, in sickness and health, to love and to hold til death do you part?”
She looked me in the eyes, and gave me a brilliant, 100% fake smile. “I do.”
“You may now kiss the bride.”
I groaned inwardly. I knew it had to be done, though, so I sucked it up and leaned in to kiss her, supporting her weight by putting my hand on the back of her shoulder as she leaned back. But just as soon as the kiss had started, it was over and I must admit, we were both relieved. But during the moment the kiss had lasted, I had felt a small spark, causing me to pull away a bit too quickly. I could tell she had noticed it to.
There was no way I could have feelings for her. I refused to have feelings for her. There was no way I would ever come to love Aralyn Bianco.
But something in the back of my head told me that maybe, just maybe, I could.
