All rights to Veronica Roth. Idea is mine.
I stare at the celing of my room, which only has a few pictures and drawings scatterd on the walls. I take my Apitude Test today to find out which faction I belong in for the rest of my life. My house is a 2 story, 5 bedroom house. Each room has an attached bathroom. I have a balcony and a bay window I like to read and draw in.
My dad, Andrew Prior, is the leader of our faction, Abnegation. There are 4 other factions. Dauntless, Amity, Erudite, and Candor. Each faction has different meanings and people. My brother, Caleb leads Erudite. He is only 10 months older than me but he was able to take his test early since he was so smart. We all knew he would be in Erudite. I get up and go into my bathroom to get ready. I take a shower and pick out my clothes.
Since Abnegation wear gray, I pick out a dark gray cardigan, lighter gray tank top to go underneath, dark gray jeans, and my gray converse. Sometimes I wish we could wear different colors. I get dressed and put some mascara on. I braid one side of my blonde bangs and pull it all into a bun. My mom walks into my room, coming to stand behind me.
"Ready? You have to leave now if you dont want to be late." I nod, walking out of my room.
"Bye, Mom."
She smiles and hugs me. "Good luck," I smile and leave the house. I walk down the path to the sidewalk, lost in my thoughts. What if there isnt a faction for me? What if there is? I don't want to leave my family. I keep thinking, finally reaching where the Tests are held. I go in and there's a sign in desk. I wait behind a dark haired girl, even more nervous. I sign my name on the sheet and go to where the lady behind the desk pointed to.
I sit in a chair near the end of the third row. I look around the room, seeing some nervous and excited expressions. People in grey outfits come out with clipboards. They go by last names so I wont be called for awhile.
"Welcome! Today all of you will take your Apitude Tests to find where you belong. We call 10 people each time by their last names." One of the men annonces.
"Here are the first 10: Garret Awell, Hailey Barns, Lucas Barns, Michael Banks, Lily Cards, Fiona Cardel, Jacob Dawn, Lola Evans, and Xander Falls. Please follow us."
The teens who were called stands and goes through the door the man and others went through. Hailey and Lucas must have been twins because they looked identical. I lean againest the arm rest, waiting for them to come back and call my name.
They come back an hour or so later and call a few more names. They are on the letter M so it wont be long before they call me. I look around the room again and see some people asleep. Others are talking or on thier phones. I pull mine out and read a books through an app. Before long, the men are back and are calling names again.
"Willow Mills, David Nates, Kyle Newman, Beatrice Prior, Ryan Perks, Kira Parker, Allison Rikes,
Malia Seth, Clara Tells, and Brian Yukes." We all stand and follow them through the doors. I look back, seeing a few left. They take us to different rooms. I stand in the back so i'm last. They leave and I open the door, stepping inside. A woman, with dark brown hair is standing by a chair, holding a glass vial."You must be Beatrice. My name is Tori and I will be adminastrating your test. Please sit down and wait." Her tone is bored and I walk over to the chair. I sit, throwing my legs up on the chair. Tori types something on the computer before coming over to me. She hands me the vial,
"Drink up," I follow her instructions, taking it all in one sip. I close my eyes, starting the test. I open them again, in the same room.
Tori isnt next to me, so I get up. I take in my surroudings, noticing that there is another door. I see if it is unlocked. I turn the knob and push. The door opens and sunlight blinds me. I blink, getting used to it quickly. I step outside, looking around. Where is everyone? I hear a scream and look around.
I see a knife sitting on a window seal and run to grab it. I then try to locate where the scream came from. I slowly turn a corner, hiding the knife in my shoe so they wont see it. I see a girl, who doesnt look much older then 6, struggling with a man twice her size.
"Hey!" I shout, trying to get his attention. It works and he looks at me. I see him smirk, before throwing the girl down. He starts running towards me and I reach down, grabbing the knife. I throw the knife, hitting his shoulder. He falls and I run past him to the girl.
She's shivering so I unbutton my cardigan and place it around her shoulders. She smiles, taking my hand. The man groans, trying to get up. "Come on, we need to go before he gets up." She nods and we stand. The scene changes and the girl isnt beside me anymore.
The room i'm in is starting to close in. I stop and think of a plan. I look down and see a key. I look at the walls and see a key hole. I quickly grab the key and place it in the hole. The walls stop moving and once again the scene changes. A man is sitting on a curb, looking like he hasnt ate in months. I feel something in my pocket and pull it out. It's an apple. I walk over to the man and hand him the apple.
He smiles, patting my hand. I smile at him, glad that he has something to eat. The scene changes and im finally back in the room. This time Tori stands next to me. I sit up, noticing her frantic typing. "Whats wrong?" She looks up from her computer and pulls me to another door. "Nothing, I was just typing your results. You got Abnegation, Dauntless, and Erudite. You are what people call Divergent. Choose wisely." After that she pushes me out the door. I walk to where the sidewalk is and walk home. If I choose another faction I leave my family. But if I do leave it means a new start and try something else. I think about it more as I walk. I come to my decison as I reach my house.
