I sit, I watch
100 hundred years spent
Sitting, watching
I watched
As people came
As a town was built
I watched
As gardens were planted
As the houses grew
I watched children play
I watched people die
I sat
As snow poured down
As it buried my roots
I sat
As wind roared
As it tore through my branches
I sat through thunder
I sat through hail
I saw destruction
I witnessed growth
I noticed terror
I viewed beauty
Now I sit and I watch
I watch as my leaves fall
I sit as my branches break
I watch as the world moves on
I watch as they learn
I sit through mistakes
I sit as they hurry
I am old
I am fragile
They are young
They are free
Beneath my dying leaves
I will die
I will wither
They will grow
They will sing
I continue to watch
I shall forevermore sit
