"Jasper? What's got you thinking so hard?"

"You know what," Jasper let out the breath he didn't know he was holding on to. "I just, why are my memories so clear when it comes to her? Why can I remember almost everything about her when I couldn't tell you my sisters name? Or even if I had a sister. She's hunted my thoughts everyday since I woke up Alice." He turned to look at his lovely mate. She sent him some love and comfort, though the curiosity didn't escape his notice. "You want me to tell you the story."

"Oh please Jasper, it's been almost 50 years and almost everyday I come to find you thinking about her. Who was she? I won't get mad Jasper. Just tell me about her."

"Her name was.. Catherine, but everyone called her Kat. She had long blonde hair that she'd let lose any time she could. Her eyes though, oh my god her eyes were this bright green. She was always happy. I remember not being able to be sad around her, maybe that's where my gift was noticeable in my human life."

"She sounds beautiful."

A light smile graced his lips. "Yeah.."

Alice turned her head to look at him. He was projecting his loss for her. She waited for Jasper to look over before she spoke. "Do you think you could tell me the whole story with her? Everything you remember. Or more, everything you're willing to share."

It took almost 15 minutes for him to answer. He wasn't sure how'd she react hearing about his human wife. She knew he was married when he was changed but that's as far as they've gotten to talking about it. Alice didn't remember any of her human life, though she woke up in the 20's. Carlisle predicted that she was between the ages of 17-19, making it less likely that she was married or had any children.

"Alright. But you have to tell me when I've said too much or you don't want to hear something. Don't try to block your emotions. I need to know your honest reactions. Please, for me." He looked so desperate, he looked younger than he normally did. Jasper kept to himself, but even with his mate he felt the pain, and pain hardens people. She helped though. Her happiness boosted his mood every time he felt her. And after feeling nothing but hatred for decades, it was still like a breath of fresh air to just be around her.

"I won't."

"Alright, it started in 1860 when I was 16...

It was a beautiful day and spring had just started to show it's face. Jasper's mother had dragged him out to the local shops in the area. She wanted to get him off the farm, he was never going to find a girl stuck there all day; though she never said it out loud. People could feel the tension when someone brought up the north states. Unknown to the towns people a war would start about a year from this day.

Jasper had been going down to the shops with his mother every week since he turned 16, but not once had he seen the little General goods store at the end of the block. With 6 half pennies in his pocket he told his mother he'd be back and walked down to the small shop. Inside held what you'd expect; flour, some types of cheese, and sugar.

To the far right of the store a girl around his age sat knitting behind what he assumed to be the counter. She had her blonde hair behind a net that sat on top of her head. "Hello ma'am." Startled, she looked up wide-eyed, how she didn't hear the bell was beyond her. "Sorry to scare you. I hadn't seen the store around before and I thought I'd check it out." His brown eyes met her green ones, her eyes were bright green, unusual in this part of Texas.

She didn't know what to say, the most beautiful man she had ever seen walked into her family's store. She wasn't even there a full week before some caught her eye. "Uh." She couldn't speak. She saw the corner of his mouth turn up slightly. Clearing her head she spoke again. "Yeah, we moved here a few days ago. Just opened shop here 3 days ago."
