I've heard that when you see your soulmate you just know it's them. God, I wish that were true, it would make my life so much easier, it's already easy however. My soulmates always look the same. Straight red hair, caramel brown eyes, clear skin, pale, almost too thin, not really short, not really tall, and girly. So. Girly. Easy to spot.
This girl was no exception, except she has a single freckle on her cheek. Oh well. It's still most likely her. Only one way to find out.
When trying to find your soulmate it's actually quite simple. You don't feel a wave of love rush over you. You feel a click. It is just there and you know that they are close.
I walk over to her and sure enough, I feel the click. The click that means I've got to call Lance for preparations. My best friend and business partner helps me set up my dates and the aftermath.
The girl faces me her eyes wide. "Did-did you feel that?""Yes. I did." I fake a smile and it catches her off guard. It does all women.
She laughs and it's as smoothe as honey. Quite beautiful but not as much as mine. "You're my...wow. I've heard its like a click when you find your...wow."
I lay claim to being excited and grab her hands in mine. "Will you meet me for a date tonight?" They always say yes. I mean they can't say no. Once they've found their soulmate they think that they are always so good. I could ask these girls to jump off a cliff and they'd go willingly.
"Of course," she replies, and I contain my smile at being right. "Here." She reaches into her purse and pulls out a pen and scribbles her name and number onto my hand. Lilly. I take the pen and do the same to her hand.
"I'll text you my address and you can just come to my house tonight. I'll take you somewhere special. Oh and don't tell anyone about us yet. I want to plan something, a surprise." I say.
"Okay." She releases my hands, and we plan for her to come to my house at eight.
We part and I head for my car. When I get in the car I pull out my phone and call Lance.
"Hi, this is Lance."
"Lance, buddy, it's Terric." I say with actual happiness in my voice now.
"Oh, hey. What do you need?"
"I have a date tonight."
"Really? Already? God, that was fast," I here papers shuffling and a chair slide in over the phone. "I'll get down to the normal place and set up."
"Thanks, Lance. I'll see you tonight."
"See you tonight."
We hang up. I start the engine and head home to get ready for my date.
I open my front door and am immediately on the ground with two hundred pounds of slobber and fur on top of me.
"Dear god, Nooka! Get off of me, you dope." I laugh. The russian bear mastiff rolls of off me onto the floor and starts to whine. "What's wrong, buddy? What?"He wobbles over to his food dish and starts to whine again. I laugh again. "Okay. I'm going to start putting you on a diet you big fatty. A three year old mastiff should not be so fat." I pat his side and go get his bag of dog food.
As Nooka begins to eat I go down to my bedroom and start to get ready. I'm going to look perfect for this date. More perfect than usual I should say.
-------
The doorbell rings and Nooka starts to bark. I look at the clock. Eight exactly.
I walk out of my bedroom to answer the door shushing Nooka on the way. I open the door and standing there is Lilly. Long dress. Perfect. Harder to run in if she gets the chance. "Ready to go?" I ask.
