I heard a bang come from the wall and jumped. Sam groggily opened her eyes and sat up from my lap. Another bang sounded in the hall and I stood up from the ground, before looking down at my mate. "I'll check it out. Stay here and be safe." I said, before hurrying down where the sound came from.
An explosion sounded and the hall shook, just as I turned the corner. My wolf senses heightened and I focused in on my mate. My wolf and I could sense her fear, as I contemplated between finding out what was happening or going back to comfort her. Before I could make the decision I heard the sound of running feet. I quickly took a U-turn and went back to my mate; there was no way I was leaving her alone.
Sam. I linked, as I continued running toward where I'd left her.
Matt? What happened? She responded in panic.
I don't know, but I'm coming to get you.
Okay, please be safe.
The footsteps got louder as the voices mingled together with the chatter of all the people who had just entered the hallway. I let out a breath and sped up, turning into the hallway where Sam and I were previously. As I reached her, she wrapped her arms around me; taking in my scent.
"As much as I'd love to stay here, we really need to." I sighed, pulling away.
"But we don't know the way out." She sighed, looking around the hall.
"We'll figure it out, we just can't stay here," I stressed, tugging her down the hall, blowing out some torches as we went.
Sam pushed at the wall, attempting to find some exit. I did my part on the other side as we continued through the tunnel. We were going to get out this way one way or another.
The sound of running water filled my ears, as Sam and I panted against one of the walls. The footsteps had fainted a while back, but we kept going just to be sure. We had practically touched the whole almost all the walls and still couldn't find a way out. I took a deep breath, before picking Sam up into my arms. She may have been the Beta's daughter, but I could tell she was tired.
"Babe, I'm fine." She sighed.
"You're tired and I think we should keep going, I want to get to that water source, it may be a way out." I smiled down at her.
She groaned, but let me continue carrying her down the hall. The water got louder, as light entered the room. I turned the corner and came face to face with a huge waterfall. "Sam, I think we're in the back of a waterfall." I laughed, putting her down.
"So do you want to jump and see where it goes?" She asked, looking at it curiously.
"Let's do it!" I grinned, going to the end of the cave exit.
