We are still walking with Kevin down the complex alley ways. Its nearly nightfall and my legs hurt, between running from the palace, walking around the village, the fight, and now the alley way.
"Hey, are we almost there? I'm not one to complain, but my legs haven't had a rest in the past day." I asked.
"Almost..." Kevin replied.
-------------------------------------------------------------
The sun was now completely gone and the stars are twinkling in the sky.
"We're here." Kevin stated.
"We are at a dead end." I retorted.
"Or is it?" Kevin said mysteriously.
Kevin tapped the wall four times....then the wall opened. Yes, the wall FREAKING OPENED!
I walked through the pathway. I was in a whole other part of the city. This part was different, the people, the food, the atmoshpere, food, everything. The people looked poor, with their tattered clothing, dirty skin and hair, and their pouches. But why did Kevin bring William and I here?
"So, this is my home sweet home. These are my friends. We live here, in the these old buildings. I honestly like it here, not having to be told to do stuff, do what we want, but that all comes at a price. We have to get our own food, money, clothing. Anything we need, but if we are caught by the guards, might as well have a war." Kevin told us as we walked through the little 'Town'.
An older boy walked towards us. He looked about 17, tall and muscular. His skinned tanned, but dirty so it was hard to tell. His eyes were a deep caramel color with matching hair.
"Kevin, why did you bring these strangers to our part of town?" The man asked.
"Listen Ryan, I stole this young lady's pouch. I ran and, okay heres the thing I didn't expect. She ran after me, shes surprisingly fast. She chased after me and dissapeared. Earlier today, she found me and chased me, we got to a dead end of an alley way. She had me cornered, I thought she was gonna kill me. But no, she called me over to her and gave me ten gold pieces. So we told each other our names and I brought them here. Lovely story right?" Too bad Kevin doesn't know why I disappeared. It would have been a lovely story.
"So, who are they and where are they from?" Ryan asked sternly.
"I'm Steph, and this is my... Brother Will. We are from a neighboring village." I said smoothly.
"Well, Steph, Will. Where are you staying?" Ryan asked.
"We currently don't have someplace to call home." William said.
Ryan nodded.
"Oh! That's another reason I brought them here. Apparently the girls tough! She's quick. And she's got no home. Thought she might be helpful to the gang." Kevin piped in.
"Does that kid have an off switch?" William joked.
"Not that I know of..." Ryan joked back.
"Nice to meet ya both. You should go meet the gang. I'll catch you guys at dinner so we can show you where you will be staying." Ryan smiled and left.
-------------------------------------------------------------
William and I split up so we can be our own people. I met a few girls. There's not many females in the gang. But I managed to meet the few that are here. They are quite nice, but if looks could kill, one girl would have killed me and ripped apart my limbs into tiny pieces. Yes, that is how evilly she looked at me.
"Caroline, do you want to share your room with Steph?" Abby asked. Abby was kind. Her black hair poured on to her dark skin. Her eyes almost looked black, but at night they sparkled.
"NO WAY! This little girl is not sleeping within 10 meters of me!" Caroline was mean, I barely knew her. She kept her blonde hair in a pony tail, her eyes were a deep blue. She was tiny for her age, but she kept a knife at her side in case someone needed to be "sliced and diced".
"Isn't that a bit harsh on the new girl?" Flare, her real name is Lita, spoke up. Lita had a deep chocolate brown hair with orange tips and streaks. She was taller than me.
"If you want, I can share a room with the guys?" I said shyly. Why am I being so shy? I am the daughter of the queen. I guess my courage ran away when I did...
"No way." Abby told me.
"Girls in the girl dorm, guys in the guys dorm. That's how it is." Flare piped in.
"Caroline, who do you want to share a room with?" Flare asked Caroline.
"Me," She said stubbornly.
"Fine, looks like three in a room tonight." Abby said.
"Okay." I said quietly.
-------------------------------------------------------------
We chatted for a little while longer until a bell rang.
"Dinner time. Come on Steph, I'll show you where it is." Flare led me to the dinning hall.
When I got there I saw William with some boys his age. I smiled his way to signal I made some friends. He smiled back. Good, now we have some back up. For, you know, just in case.
I got my food and sat down with Flare and Abby. Caroline was no where to be found.
"Where's Caroline?" I asked.
"Who knows. She does what she wants when she wants." Flare told me.
We ate our dinner and talking. But even though Caroline bated me, I couldn't help wonder where she was and doing what.
-------------------------------------------------------------
After dinner we went to our dorms, they were old buildings, but it beat sleeping on a branch and day. I climbed into bed, but I cried. My tears spilled onto the pillow.
"Hey," Abby looked at me. "You okay?" Abby looked concerned.
"Yeah, just I guess a long day. Good night Abby, good night Flare." I said, falling asleep.
