Waking up at 6:30am in the morning was one thing but actually getting out of bed was another. I slowly rolled over to turn my beeping alarm off. It wasn't until quarter to seven when I finally did make an attempt to get up. After all it was the first day back at school. Looking forward to the thought of seeing my friends, I quickly changed into my plain white school shirt and dark blue skirt. I went to the bathroom and placed my hair in a low pony tail and went downstairs.
“Well good morning Kayla” Mum joked.
“Yeah, hi” I mumbled sleepily.
“What’s got into you?” Mum asked.
“Oh nothing” I replied.
Mum just went back to reading her magazine, while I went to the cupboard and got some cereal and sat down at the kitchen table where Aaron my stupid brother was sitting. Aaron was only in year 8 so he was still in that ‘annoying brother’ stage. I looked over at him and he was stuffing his face full of toast as usual.
“Yuck, Aaron that is disgusting” I scoffed.
“Yeah, I know you are but what am I” He smirked.
“Oh shut up dickhead” I argued.
“Language Kayla, now both of you hurry up and finish or you’ll miss the bus” She told us sounding annoyed. “Yes, mum” Me and Aaron said in union. I just rolled my eyes and grabbed my bag and necessities and walked out the door down to the bus stop.
When I got down there one of my best friends Renee was already down there with my other friend Jed. “Hey guys” I said “Hey” Renee said and gave me a hug. “Hey, Kayla how’s it going?” Jed said and also gave me a hug. “Yeah good, what about you?” I replied. “Yeah, alright” Jed replied smiling.
We started talking about our favourite bands when the bus started to come around the corner and out of the corner of my eye I saw my brother running down our street he ran straight pass us and onto the bus. Me and Renee just rolled our eyes while Jed let out a little chuckle.
When we got onto the bus I saw my other best friend, Lauren sitting next to James Miller. I didn’t really know James that well we just met, but he seems like a nice enough guy. Lauren got up from where she was sitting and gave me a hug.
“Hey Kayla” She smiled. Just as I was going to sit down next to Renee, the bus started and I felt myself thrown backwards right onto someone’s lap. “Oh my god, get off me loser” A high pitched annoying voice squeaked which could only belong to one person Rhiana. Me and Rhiana defiantly aren’t the closest of best friends, well we aren’t actually friends at all for that matter more like enemies you could say. “Whatever skank” I replied back, she just rolled her eyes and gave me the finger.
God, that slut really gets on my nerves. I just shrugged it off and went to go sit down, I looked around the bus for an available seat but I saw Lauren and James sitting together and Renee and Jed together. I sighed and sat down at the front in an empty seat.
About ten minutes had passed and I just sat there playing Doodle Jump on my iPod when all of a sudden the bus came to a halt at the North Grove stop and all the usual kids hopped on, I just groaned out of boredom and went back to playing my game.
“Excuse me Miss is this seat taken?” I heard a small voice ask.
I looked up to see who asked me, and I saw a guy with light brownish hair and a sincere smile plastered on his face.
“Uh, no it isn’t” I smiled back.
He sat down quietly next to me and I continued to play my game on my iPod.
“So, um what you playing?” he asked awkwardly.
“Doodle Jump” I replied, blushing from embarrassment.
He chuckled. “Nice” He joked.
I just turned to the window and noticed that we were pulling into the bus stop. Oh thank god, I can get away from this awkward situation. I waited for the new guy to slide out of the seat so we can both just get on with our lives. But, of course he didn’t he turned back to me.
“I’m Eddie by the way, Eddie Kemp” He said holding out his hand for me to shake.
“The name’s Kayla” I smiled at him and took his hand. He hopped out of the seat and waited for me to get up. “Ladies first” he grinned.
“Thanks” I said blushing.
When we hopped of the bus he turned back to me.
“Well, it was nice meeting you Kayla” He smiled.
“You too Eddie” I said smiling back.
He started walking off in the direction to catch up with another guy who had blondish sort of hair he obviously must be new too. They were walking towards the front office obviously to get there classes sorted.
“Wow, who is that” I heard Lauren say from behind me.
“Oh him, that’s Eddie” I said blushing. “He’s new”
“Well obviously” Renee Joked.
“Come on girls, do you want to get another detention for being late?” James yelled at us from the school gate. And with that we were off to form class.
