Brandon's POV:

Mom (Stef) came in my room last night and told me that Callie was in juvie before she came here. At first I wondered why they would let her in our house, but then I remembered dinner and how she looked hard and tough on the outside but when I looked into her eyes she looked sad and scared. Even with a bruised face and cut lip she was still beautiful. Wait what am I thinking? I have a girlfriend, Talya. Talya Talya Talya. I fell asleep looking at her picture, but I dreamed about a girl with straight brown hair and brown eyes.

I wake up this morning to the smell of breakfast already being made. I quickly get dressed and run to the one and only bathroom in the house. Then I go downstairs and into the kitchen. I grab the cups and orange juice and set them on the table and then pour some into a glass.

Callie comes into the kitchen dressed in the same clothes she had been wearing last night. Without saying a word to anyone, she walks to the coffee maker and pours the coffee in a mug that is waiting next to the machine. We all stop what we are doing and stare. I don't know about everybody else, but I was amazed. We are not allowed to have coffee, so of course Jesus being Jesus asks, "can I have coffee too?" No moms say unison. Then mom (Lena) says to Callie, "would you like some cream?" She just shakes her head no and walks back out of the room.

After we eat breakfast we all pile into mom's (Lena) car. Callie sits in back with Mariana and Jesus and I sit shotgun. When we pull up to school we all get out of the car and mom tells me to show Callie around and what her first class is. I point out the room that her first class is in, but we're 30 minutes early so Callie follows me to the music room. She sits on the window sill and I sit at the piano working on my piece for the contest tonight. I really need the scholarship.

Callie seems to be enjoying my piece because she's watching my hands intently and has a small smile in her face. "Did you write this?" She asks.

"Yeah, it's about the night my moms asked me if Mariana and Jesus could come live with us."

"They asked you?" I nodded. "Were you going to say no?"

"No, I figured there was enough to go around."

"Enough what to go around?"

"House, food... Love." She nods and I start to play again.

"But there aren't any words?"

"Just listen," I play a small part, "this is me," I play a little bit more, "my moms," then I play everything together, "this is all of us. You see how it all sounds better together." She nods and the Talya comes in. I introduce them and then the bell rings. "Hey bebe Callie has the same first period class as you, do you mind showing her where it is? I need to practice for tonight."

"No I don't mind." Then she kisses me IN FRONT OF CALLIE and walks out with Callie following her. Why did she kiss me in front of Callie? I shake it out of my head and continue playing, but notepad of practicing my song for the show tonight a new one comes to me.

After lunch Talya and I are talking outside, when I see Callie walking past me and away from campus. I tell Talya I'll be right back and then push past her. She looks pissed, but my moms told me to look after Callie. I would have even if they hadn't told me because there is just something about her that makes me want to protect her.

"Callie, Callie, where are you going."
