The next morning, I woke Alanna early and made sure she was ready to leave. Of course, she had to go see the horses one last time before she agreed to get in the car with me. I had called a taxi before Brock even got up and had them meet us down at the entrance. I knew he didn't like people knowing where he lived, so eliminated that problem by walking to the end of the road.
When Brock did get up, we were halfway out the door. He gave me the look because I had called a cab but I didn't care. He had a long couple of days and I thought he deserved to sleep in a little. Maybe he would get over his mad spell.
Before we headed down the driveway, Alanna hugged Brock and thanked him for allowing us to spend the weekend with him. She told him that she enjoyed herself and hoped to be back one day to see Willow and Surprise. He told her not worry, that the next time she was on break from school, he would make sure that she got to come see them. I didn't say anything to him, I kept my mouth shut and only said goodbye as Alanna and I headed down the gravel road.
The taxi met us within minutes and before long, we were at the airport and on our way home. When we returned, I stopped by the school and checked her in. I also talked with a counselor and informed them that Alanna would be gone Friday for court. They assured me that they would see to it that Alanna would have her school work sent home with her Thursday, so that she wouldn't be behind when she returned. After getting all of that taken care of, I returned home and caught up on some housework. I also contacted my parents to let them know that we were back.
It seemed like each day after went slower and slower. By the next morning, Alanna and I had fell back into our daily routine quite well. We were back on schedule and continued with life as we did before I returned to work. This worked the same on Thursday, except by that night, she was asking me a million questions about how court would go. I did my best to answer them and she seemed quite calm about the whole thing.
By Friday morning, we were up at our usual time but instead of getting ready for school, we were getting ready for court. I made sure Alanna and I both looked nice and even pulled the mommy/daughter twin look. Yes, I was desperate.
I looked professional in a red blouse, black tuxedo jacket, and black ruffled skirt. Alanna took my look and added the girly charm by wearing a red butterfly top and her black tutu. She thought it was nice to dress up like mommy, even though I knew in a few years, she would likely think different.
Once we were ready to go, we went to pick up Brock at the airport. I had talked to him several times since we had returned and he apologized for snapping at me. Alanna talked to him every night and asked how Willow and Surprise were doing and he assured her that they were doing just fine.
As soon as Alanna saw Brock walking toward us, she ran toward him and gave him a big hug. It was a moment to see and I snapped a picture to remind myself and perhaps Brock, that he wasn't a bad guy at all. I also forwarded the picture to my lawyer to add to the slideshow.
Finally, he picked her up and met me at the car. "What are you wearing?" He asks as he puts Alanna down.
She smiles. "Me and mommy are matching!"
"I can see that." He looked to me for an answer.
I shrugged. "I'm desperate. Do you blame me?"
"Honestly, you have nothing to worry about."
Even though I was still nervous, Brock made me breathe a little easier since he had so much faith. I knew my lawyer was good and I knew our case was pretty solid but I just wasn't sure what Randy had in store. I knew he would play dirty and I had prepared myself for that, but I just kept thinking he would throw a curve ball and I would freeze.
