The pavilion was huge. Armor was set out on tables. Sari helped me into mine. That was a little embarrassing, but I managed to brave through it. We were blue team. Hemmy pointed out that we were on the same team as Hermes, Ares, Athena, and a few other cabins who's godly parent I didn't remember. Everyone else was red who's team was lead by our camp director. Our team was lead by Instructor Stoll.
Chiron stood with his front hooves on a table. He spoke loudly so everyone would give their undivided attention. "Campers! The rules have been explained. Each team choose a captive from the other."
There was a lot of whispering. Ms. La Rue turned toward us and said. "We choose Liala Wellberry. Get over here daughter of Athena."
The blonde girl, who was about seventeen, that was alone in the Athena cabin walked over with a grin on her face. "Taking out the strong players are we?" She turned back toward us and lipped something like 'chew the na me sis console are.'
Stoll seemed to understand though, he nodded me said. "We choose Etna. Nemesis counselor."
An eighteen year old girl that would have scared a gang of bikers walked over. She was short, but I couldn't imagine anyone telling her that. She looked like she was out for blood. She bumped into Hemmy as she passed. He only blushed.
Chiron spoke again. "Now. Avery, The Junior Ambassador of New Rome, will be joining the blue team." A girl about my age walked nervously over toward us and stood next to me. She had chocolate brown hair and pale skin. Her eyes were piercing blue. "And Instructor Snu will be joining red team." My father walked over and stood next to the director. "Ambassador Di Angelo and I will act as referee. Follow your captains and hide your captives. The game commences thirty minute from now. Begin!"
Stoll waved his hand for us to follow him toward the woods. We all did so silently.
I have never held a sword before, and now, it just seemed awkward. How the heck do you use these things. They're so unbalanced and heavy. Stoll seemed to notice my struggle with the weapon and told me I would be on defense. He announced this to everyone. "Boreas, Hypnos, and our Roman Ambassador are to take defensive. Everyone else is with me. We're putting the captive at the Battle of the Labyrinth sight." There was some uncomfortable chatter. "Calm down. There is nothing to fear there."
We walked farther into the woods until we reached a mound of rocks. We tied up Etna's hands and feet and told her to sit on the boulders. We set up a defensive ring and Stoll told the offensive the plan to steal back the Athena girl. From what I heard Stoll would have made an excellent thief. I wondered who his parent was.
Suddenly a horn sounded and the offensive team was off.
