Chapter Five:
In the days before Kaylynn and Rosie got here I'd received a reminder in the mail about being one of Rydel's bridesmaids for her wedding next weekend. It was crazy to think about when she met my cousin, Taylor. I'd never imagined that this would lead down the aisle. Yet here I was, mulling over the reminder card while sipping coffee and trying to decide what I was wearing to my final runway show.
"It feels like a dream that they're finally getting married." Kaylynn peered over my shoulder.
"Me neither," Rosie replied "It's been like, what, a year since they got engaged? Just think about how much has changed. Take our own engagements for examples."
"Yeah a lot has changed for the better, but some of it hasn't." I said, fixing my eyes on the picture of me and Camila.
"So who's going to be Rydel's maid of honor?" Kaylynn asked, laying a skirt and top onto my bed.
"Last I knew it was Camila, and I have no reason to believe that that would have changed. I never even told Rydel about what happened. She probably thinks that Camila and Grant are still with his family." I shrugged and looked at more outfit options.
After a second of contemplation I decided to change the topic of conversation, "Should I wear something I've designed, or something one of the judges has designed?"
"Definitely one of your designs! Much less stuffy and totally original." Kaylynn played along, for that I was eternally grateful.
"I really like that midi sequin, flare skirt that you made for last Christmas." Rosie chimed in, holding up the skirt.
"Yeah and I could wear it with my plaid off the shoulder crop top." I grabbed the skirt and the top and went to the bathroom to change.
The look was what I was going for but it was missing something... a statement necklace! I walked out of the bathroom, feeling thankful for the distraction of clothing and so on.
"Hand me that green necklace, it'll complete the look." I stuck my hand out.
When the item was placed in my hand, I clasped it around my neck.
"How does this look?" I asked.
"I love it!" Rosie said.
There was a long silence I twirled in the mirror a little.
"So have you thought about what kind of wedding dress you want?" Kaylynn inquired, there was a hint of hesitation in her voice.
"No," I huffed in exasperation as I fell back onto my bed.
"We've been looking at Pinterest, and we found quite a few cute options we could have replicated." Rosie pulled Pinterest up and flicked through the board they'd made.
I looked over her shoulder, trying to see if there was something I liked. There were numerous ones that I thought were pretty, but I didn't see one that looked like I'd where it. I sighed and continued to look while they showed me the rest of what they had envisioned for the wedding. I wasn't 100% sure if they were planning my wedding or theirs but I didn't mind. It was kinda cool that my best friends were engaged at the same time that I was.
"I'm going to change," I said, getting up off the bed and collecting my sweatshirt and leggings.
My phone rang on my dresser. I turned around and picked it up, answering without looking at the caller i.d.
"Hello?" I said.
"Hey babe," I'd know that voice anywhere.
"Hey," I sighed, "What's up?"
"Freya almost gave birth last night." He said, nonchalantly.
"What? You're kidding right?" I dropped my sweatshirt and leggings onto the bathroom floor.
"I'm not kidding. By the time tour is over I guarantee you we'll have a baby on the bus." He said.
"Why are you saying all this so calmly? This is going to be a pretty big deal for Riker, for Freya, and for everyone on the bus." I replied, leaning on the counter in the bathroom.
"I know. We're all trying to be calm for them. If we freak out too, that will just make things worse than they already are. I can't wait for tour to be over." Ross would never say that.
"Pardon me, sir, but who is this and what have you done with my boyfriend?" I joked.
"I'm serious C," He laughed "This tour can't be over fast enough."
"I'm sorry it's not as fun as usual." I wondered what was making him feel this way.
"It's just weird not having you here. I mean, I've been on multiple tours without you but... I don't know... It feels wrong this time around. I don't know how to explain it." He sounded muffled all the sudden.
"Where are you?" I asked.
"I'm in a closet on the bus." He replied with a 'duh' tone to his voice.
"I can't wait to see you." I smiled.
"Me neither. Hey, I have to go, but I want to tell you that you're going to kill it at the final showcase this weekend. Babe, I'm so proud of you! I can't wait to say that I was engaged to you when your future took off like it has. I love you!"
"I love you most." I said.
"See you soon, love." and with that he hung up.
I changed and walked out into my room again, falling onto my bed next to my friends.
"Only a few more days till I'm out of this wretched city." I sighed in relief.
They laughed an continued on in their search for "my" wedding dress. I'm pretty sure they were really looking for their own, but that's ok. I'm happy to help.
Welcome back to my story, I told you I'd post again soon... Not as soon as I wanted to, but that's life. Anyhow, I hope you all enjoyed this chapter, I know that it really has zero meaning for the rest of the story but it's a filler chapter to keep the story going. See you soon for the next chapter.
