Faith's P.O.V.

"Are you ready for your first day on the job?" Marley asks me with a contagious smile.

She ended up talking to her boss into giving me the interview and it went amazing. He gave me the job and today is my first day. I'm super nervous but really excited at the same time.

"Yes I am. Thanks again Marley! You have no idea how much this means to me." I smile and pull her into the biggest hug I can manage with my short arms. She laughs and hugs me back tightly.

"You're welcome Faith. I would do anything for my best friend." she says and pulls back.

Best friend?

I never really thought about it because we've only known each other for about a week, but Marley has easily become my best friend. Ever since we met we're almost always together.

"You're my best friend too Marley." I send her a smile that she gladly returns.

"Let's get going then."

We both grab our bags and head out.

Twenty minutes later we pull up to a small building in between much bigger ones.

"Jackie's Coffee house", the sign reads. It's a colorful building inside and out. There are tables and chairs placed all over the room and then a kitchen towards the back. Marley leads me to the front counter where a man in his late fifties leans again the register.

"Hey Tommy! This is Faith. She's our newest worker." Marley informs him and he gives me a kind smile.

"Well welcome aboard Faith! It's great to have you here. I'm Tommy Lansinger." He holds out his hand for me to shake.

"Thank you. It's great to be here."

"Ok I'll have Tommy here show you the basics and you should catch on pretty fast. It's easy." Marley says while opening a door that leads to the back of the counter.

"Good luck." She adds and walks back into the kitchen.

"Ok lets get started. What you'll be doing is running the register and taking orders. Write the customer's order on these and send them into the kitchen. The register is self-explanatory so you'll be fine there." Tommy explains while I listen intently.

"Ok. Sounds good. Thanks Tommy."

"Here's your first customer now. Good luck." He says and I look up to make eye contact with those blue eyes I can't seem to get out of my head.

Ryder.

"Hey." Is all he says.

"Hi. What can I get you?" I ask.

"Coffee. Black." He says and pulls out his wallet.

"Ok. 2.50 please." He hands me the money and sits down a couple stools away from me. I take his order to the kitchen and wait for Marley to hand it to me.

"So your first customer is Ryder. How interesting." She winks and laughs when I smack her arm lightly.

"Just give me the stupid coffee." I laugh and take it out of her hand. I walk back to Ryder and place the coffee in front of him.

"Here you go."

"Thanks. So when did you start working here?" He asks which kind of shocks me. He was barely talking to me a second ago. But I guess that's Ryder for you.

"Today actually." I laugh.

"Oh." He laughs and I swear my heart stops beating. His laugh is the most beautiful sound I've ever heard. It's raspy yet very boy like. I love it.

"Well I should get back to the register." I say and he nods. I feel his eyes on me the whole time I'm walking back. I'm staring down at the register when someone snaps their fingers in front of my face.

"Oh I'm sorry. What can I get for you?" I ask a guy maybe a year or two older than me.

"You're fine babe. How about a mocha latte and you go out with me this Saturday?" He says rather with a cocky grin.

Excuse me?

"W-what?" I stutter. Nice Faith.

"I said a mocha latte and go out with me this Saturday." He repeats slower as if I can't comprehend what he's saying.

"I don't even know you."

"My name's Ricky. And you are?"

"So out of your league." A familiar voice interrupts.

"Ryder? What the hell are you doing here?" Ricky asks.

Wait. They know each other?

"Just enjoying my coffee and watching you get shot down." Ryder smirks and I can't help but laugh a little.

"Screw off Ryder." The Ricky guy huffs.

"No. You screw off and leave my friend alone. And if you ever come near her again, I'll kick your ass." Ryder suddenly says in a deadly tone.

"Now get the hell out of here." He adds when Ricky doesn't say anything.

Ricky glares at him for a minute before storming out of the cafe. I guess he knew better than to disobey Ryder.

"Thank you Ryder. You didn't have to do that." I say while not looking at him. All the sudden I feel fingers lifting up my chin and then I'm looking straight at Ryder.

"If he ever comes near you again tell me and I'll take care of it. Understood?"

All I can do is nod my head.

"Good. I got to go so I'll see you later." He says and walks out the door.

"What the hell was that all about?" Marley asks coming up beside me.

That's what I'd like to know.

"I don't know." I answer.

"He so likes you!" She says and jumps up and down.

I groan and face palm.

This is gonna be a long day.
