Chapter 1 - Bruises
I looked at my self in the mirror. Running my hands down the cuts and bruises on my arm. I grabbed my clothes for the day. After changing, I double checked in the mirror, making sure my wounds were covered. I looked at my watch and panicked. I slowly tipped toed down the stairs. When I was almost to the door, I heard footsteps banging as they came down the stairs. I flinched knowing what was coming next.
"You're running late and ruining my schedule!" my father, if I can even call him that, yelled at me.
"I--I'm sorry, I was just about to leave." I said barely above a whisper. Before I could move, he slapped me clean across the face. I staggered backwards reaching for my face with my hand.
"GO!" I quickly opened the door and ran outside to my bus stop. I wiped away the tears when I saw the bus coming closer. Time to put a smile on. This is my senior year. My mother died when I was a freshman. I had a normal family before then. Everyone was happy and got along. Then my mom died and my father took a turn for the worse. He beat me ever since. No one knows. I didn't want pity from anyone. I want people to judge me for who I am. Most importantly, I didn't want to be put in an orphanage or something. I didn't let it put me down, though. I am a generally happy person. Sometimes, I have to fake it.
I slid into the seat next to my best friend, Hannah.
"Oh my word, what happened?" she said, looking by my face. I gave her a puzzled look, then remembered what happened that morning.
"Um I fell!" I fake smiled, "but I'm fine," I quickly added. She nodded her head, then her smile grew.
"Arn't you excited for today?!" I just sat and stared at her.
"Why it's just another boring day of school." She gasped.
"One Direction is visiting our school today! How could you not be excited?" Oh yeah, One Direction. Honestly, I'd never heard of them before. I didn't even know what they looked like. Our school won some contest, so they had to put on a show at our school.
"Oh yeah, It's going to be awesome!" I fake squealed. She didn't notice. Hannah turned around to talk to someone else. She was way more popular then me. Hannah actually talked to guys.
I pulled out the journal from my backpack and began flipping through the pages. It was my mom's. It was filled with pictures and entries she put in there. She was a photographer. It was really the only I real thing I had left of her. My dad basically threw out everything. I loved looking through it.
I felt a tap on my shoulder and realized we were at the school. I shut the journal and got out of the bus. I walked to my home room and slumped down in my seat.
"Good morning students! Today One Direction is co--" The teacher was interrupted by a bunch of screams. I looked around the room to see all the girls out of their seats freaking out. What was the big deal about One Direction?
"ANYWAYS! They will be here in about thirty minutes, so until then talk QUIETLY amongst yourselves." Everyone turned around in their seats so talk to people. I didn't really know anyone in this class so I pulled out the journal again. I flipped to a random page and opened it.
"Dear Mallory,
Never let people bring you down. Always be yourself. When I get older, and my time has come to pass, just know that I am always watching over you. I left a box in the attic with your name on it. Check it out. :) "
A tear fell down my face but I quickly wiped it away. I put the journal away and looked around. Everyone was getting up to go to the gym. I snuck out and ran to the doors. I ran outside and into the parking lot. I quickly ran to the bus stop near school. I got there right when a bus stopped by.
____________
I went into the attic and looked around. Good thing my dad was at work. I looked at all the boxes. Finally, I came across a little box in the corner. I closed my eyes then turned the box around. I slowly opened my eyes. Sure enough my name was right there. I opened the box and peeked inside.
Inside was a bunch of pictures of just my mom and me. Also some of places she visited or things she did. I picked up the pictures and began to flip threw them. I smiled at the one of us on a beach, standing by the water. I set the pictures down and looked back at the box. I reached in and grabbed a fabric. It was long and the colors glowed and shinned in the light. When it was all out, I laid it on the ground. It was a beautiful dress. I recognized it somewhere. I picked up the pictures and flipped through them again. I pulled out the picture of my mom and dad on their first date. They were dancing in the moonlight, my mom was wearing the dress. Her hands where linked with my dads and she was spinning gracefully. I smiled at the beautiful picture. A single tear fell down my face. I missed those days, where everyone was happy.
I put everything back in the box and carried to my room. Good thing dad was at work. After I put the box under my bed, I ran out of the house to catch the bus. I didn't want anyone to notice I was gone during the concert, not that anyone would besides Hannah.
When I arrived back at school, I walked into the gym to see the concert getting ready. I hurried outside and sat down by a tree. I pulled out the journal again.

Niall's P.O.V
As soon as we got to the school I went to the front while they set up. There where a few people around the front. I mostly noticed a beautiful girl sitting by a tree. She looked like she was reading a journal or something. I started heading over there when another guy got there first.
He reached for the journal and snatched it out of her hands.
"Hey give it back!" the girl yelled trying to jump for it. He smirked and held it higher.
"Never, freak!" The guy started flipping thew the pages keeping it away from her.
"Oooh, a journal!" He flipped to the last page and pulled out a picture. I started heading over.
"What's this, a picture?" the guy said to her smirking again.
"Don't touch that! Give it back!" She reached for it again but failed. The guy was starting to tear the photo, by the time I got there it was too late. The photo was in half. I quickly snatched the photo and journal away from him.
"Leave!" I yelled in his face. He scurried away. I turn to the girl and smiled handing her her things. My smile quickly faded when I saw tears on the verge of coming out when she looked at the photo.
"What's wrong?"
"This was the last photo we took together and now it's gone." I pulled her into a hug. She flinched away and looked down.
"Sorry, I--I'm Mallory," she said wiping away her tears.
"I'm Niall. " It was she didn't even recognize me. My manager yelled for me to go back to the school. Mallory looked confused. Im glad she didn't yell or freak out. We said our good byes and I headed inside.

Mallory's P.O.V
Niall seemed really nice. I've never seen him around school before though so he must be new. I made my way into the school again. I walked over to Hannah and waved.
"Hey sit next to me!" I smiled and nodded. Soon the band came on stage. I looked up and my eyes met those beautiful blue ones. Wait what? Niall was on stage. That could only mean one thing. His eyes met mine and he smiled. I blushed and looked away. Niall was in One Direction and I didn't even realize it.
"Oh my word, he just smiled at you!" I nodded my head slowly still trying to figure out what just happened. wow, this is so cliche.
