I woke up in Toby's apartment on his couch. His duvet was wrapped around me and I was wearing a pair of sweatpants and a tee shirt that were clearly Toby's. My body felt numb at the moment but it didn't last very long. My ribs felt like someone shot me and I tried to resist crying out in pain. I could hear Toby coming back towards me and he sat on the ground in front of me, tangling his fingers with mine.

"I know you're hurting Clary," he said, kissing my cheeks, nose and forehead. "Elle is coming back with some pain killers and the boys are coming for a movie night." I let go of his hand and sat up on the couch, trying to mask my pain.

"I'm sure you need help with something," I said, standing up. I took a moment to take a deep breath before making my way into the kitchen for a glass of ice water. I could feel Toby's hand on my back in an attempt to keep me up and I wasn't entirely sure I didn't need him there. "What's for dinner tonight?" I asked, searching through a half empty fridge.

"The boys are actually picking up pizza," Toby said, pulling up a bar stool for me. "Clary I want to look at your ribs," he said, sitting me on the stool. I sighed, swearing under my breath. Toby was in no way qualified to be a doctor, but he was like a brother to me. I knew one way or another he would have to see eventually.

Toby rested his hands on my knees, looking into my eyes, but I avoided his gaze. After what seemed like forever, I nodded and his hands met the bottom of the tee shirt. His hands made their way to my stomach and I could hear him gasp even though he tried to hide it. I had no interest in looking, but his fingers met a certain spot and I winced, pushing his hand away.

"What's the verdict doc?" I said, trying to lighten his mood. Before he could answer, Elle came bursting through the door, humming along to music like she always was.

"I think you'll appreciate this," she said, handing me two innocent looking pills. I took them, followed by the rest of my water, before sitting back on the couch with Toby's duvet. Toby sat next to me, taking some of the duvet so he could cuddle me closer. I heard a knock at the door and Elle opened it for the boys who had 3 pizzas in their hands.

Niall sat beside me with 3 slices on one plate before kissing my temple and offering me a slice. "I'm really not hungry," I said, noticing the growing worry in his eyes. "I'm sure you can eat the third anyway," I said, laughing. "What movie should we watch?" I asked, handing the remote to Toby. He flipped through the channels before settling on my absolute favorite movie, Home Alone.

Sitting between Niall and Toby was like sitting between two knights. They both took turns looking at me to make sure I was still ok and I could relax for the first time that day. Halfway through the movie, I decided to lay on my less injured side. I rested my head in Toby's lap and my feet in Niall's. Niall traced patterns on my legs while Toby ran his fingers through my hair and I drifted off to sleep in the safest place I could imagine.

AN - So this chapter was a tad bit shorter, but I've uploaded 4 times today. This Authors Note is partly so I remember some things and partly to explain some of my inspiration.

Toby is based off of my best friend. I am a girl (Princess With A Pencil) and he is my guardian angel. I can admit on here that I like him as more than a friend and the feeling isn't mutual but I don't care. I want Toby and Clary's relationship to be like my relationship to that friend.

I know that I've been building up Niall's relationship with Clary, but Clary will not be dating any of the One Direction boys in this book. Period. I want to use this first book to build up her relationship with them. The main focus of this book is to get Clary to a point where she's confident with herself and her parent issues are dealt with.

I hope you enjoy what I've put up so far. I love comments so so much and I do my best to reply to all of them so feel free to comment :)
