My Definitions of Home:

1. Where you go back almost every day. A place in which you eat, sleep, rest, and do your homework (if you actually do it the day it's assigned. Yeah, I'm looking at you procrastinators.)

2. Somewhere so comfortable, you can easily do things such as walking around in your underwear or blending a salad without thinking twice about it.

3. Where you don't have that thick, lonely feeling when you're in a crowd, but are an outsider nonetheless. Where you don't have to struggle when talking, or be drowned in your silly insecurities.

Wow, this got depressing quickly. Sharing time's over.

4. The warm smell of laundry after it's gotten out of the dryer. The sunlight streaming through the windows in the morning, making the inside of your house so bright you won't even need the lights. Sounds of an egg frying in the pan. Your mother pulling you into an impromptu waltz as you try to keep up with the steps.

5. Everywhere your friends are. Talking to them about anything from colorguard to relationships to what your personality is while drunk. (Apparently I'd be the loud, affectionate one going around giving people hugs).

6. The warm, contented feeling you get when you sit on your bed when the rain is pounding against windows, and a good book on your lap. Then your sister throws a wet towel at your face after she finishes drying her hair, and ruins everything.

7. A place that's been marked by the drawings and scratches you left it. A place where you accidentally spilled bottles of nail polish on the carpet, and the stain still hasn't disappeared.

8. A temporary safe haven, keeping the last remnants of your childhood safe in its loving hands. You can't stay there forever, or how else would you learn to grow up?

So you pack your bags, and look behind you one last time before you leave, remembering all the wonderful memories you've had there, and the peace it's given you. Then you look forward and walk away, hoping that one day you'll make a home just like it.

[A/N]- Yeah, just something I made for my school's literary magazine. The theme was "home".
