The first time we met it was nothing special. Nothing special at all. I had asked whether I had seen her before, trying to make conversation. She smiled and revealed her beautiful dimples. “No,” she replied curtly. I was intrigued. I walked away with a smirk on my face. “Hmm, my next victim” I thought to myself.
The next day I found myself wondering whether or not I should speak to her. I ended up opting for the latter. She wasn’t exactly my type, but something about her made me want to smile. I had had girlfriends before; too many to count, but never anything serious. I was, in my opinion, desirable and my opinion was reinforced by all the girls that attended the Oracle Academy. Whenever I walked past there was a whisper and sometimes a loud sigh. My voice was my biggest asset. I could get a girl to fall in love over the phone. All I had to do was sing a bit, and then tell her that she was the first and only to ever hear me sing personally. Silly girls. It was all too easy. In person it was even easier. All I had to do was smile and occasionally kiss the soft hand and voila, head over heels.
I was everything that a guy wanted to be and everything that a girl wanted her boyfriend to be. At least, that’s what others thought. In actual fact, I was everything a girl wanted her boyfriend not to be. I was good-looking and I took advantage of that fact. I was also arrogant, but only when it suited me. I was anything that any girl wanted me to be, and when I was bored of a girl, I would just make up some excuse about how I needed to concentrate on my work and the next day I’d find myself another girl and carry on. I never stopped to think about the feelings that I could and in most cases, did hurt. I was me; and to me, I was all that mattered.
When I saw her sitting in the courtyard during our recess, I went over and spoke to her. Our conversation was short and abrupt. She told me that I was a typical player, and that she wasn’t the kind of girl that would easily fall for a guy like me. I replied with a smile, and told her that I wasn’t even remotely interested and that she was flattering herself. With that, she stood up and walked away, leaving the guys pointing and laughing at me. It was the first time I had ever been rejected.
The following day, I saw her again and asked for her name. “Taz” she replied coldly. “I’m Mo,” I replied and shot a flirty smile. I was about to take her hand and kiss it, but as soon as I reached out to take her hand she pulled it away and tucked it in her pocket. “What the..?:” was the first thing that came to mind, but then I remembered that she was from out of town and that contact with the opposite sex was strictly prohibited in her place of birth. “Dammit, this is really going to be hard” I thought to myself as she walked away. A moment later her mother came to pick her up in a brand new BMW. “Oh shit” I thought to myself, “This is going to be impossible.”
My family wasn’t poor, but we weren’t well off either. I drove an old golf, and she was driving in a BMW. That just totally killed any chance of me getting anywhere. But then again, I hadn’t let anything like that stop me before; I was going to pull out all the stops...
