In my experience, I was never able to completely get over my first love. I remember the first time we met, it feels as if it was just a few days ago. I remember the sparkle in his eye, his charming smile, his sweet voice and the way he used to look at me. But then, I remember everything that happened between us, I was a joke, simply some bet that he wanted to win. I truly fell head over heals for Zac. He was my best friend. I remember the shift in our relationship, suddenly there was teasing, flirting and he showed all the signs of someone falling in love. I still remember his words, how harsh he was before he left and disappeared. I haven't seen him since then and that was a little over a year ago but here I am today still thinking about him."Hello...Elena, are you even listening to me!" my best friend Nicole said as she snaps her fingers to get my attention. She stares at me but I look away from her because she'll know exactly who I was just thinking of.
"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking of anything important, continue what you were saying." I tried to shake it off but we both knew my thoughts.
"You were thinking of him again weren't you..." I didn't even want to argue against it, "Elena he hurt you badly, I don't care how much you love him still, you have to move on. Who knows if he is even ever going to come back." she said with a sympathetic look.
"Yeah, I guess you are right." I said with a forced smiled.
***ring ring ring***
"Looks like it's time to get back to torture." Nicole said as she took her time getting up from our lunch table."Oh don't be so dramatic, you are going to miss coming to high school when we graduate in June." I said.
"Well these next four months better go by faster because I promise you I will surely not miss this place. I'll see you at soccer practice in a couple of hours." she said with a drag.
We both walked out of the cafeteria and down separate hallways to our classes.
••••••••••
I jogged over to my bag and grabbed my water bottle before Nicole came over to drink the rest of it like she always does. Practice had just finished and it was probably one of the most intense since the season ended.
"Good job today ladies, since you worked so hard I'll give you tomorrow off, sounds good?" Our coach said.
"Yes coach." We all replied as a team.
Nicole grabbed her bag as many of the other girls did and we all started leaving. I started walking to my car with Nicole before I heard coach call me back.
"Elena, can you come back here for a minute." She called out.
I looked at Nicole who was giving me a look and said " I swear I didn't do anything!"
She laughed and said "Sure you didn't, give me the keys so I can go get your car and come get you."
"Nicole, if you leave the tiniest little scratch on my baby, I will kill you." I said in all seriousness.
She smirked at me before taking my keys and walking away.
"I mean it Nicole Rose." I said.
She laughed and continued walking. I turned on my heal and started jogging over to my coach. I finally reached her and noticed a man in a suit who seemed to be in his late thirties standing next to her.
"Elena, I would like you to meet coach Sterns. He has been watching you all season and came out to watch our practice today." she said.
At first I was confused and wondered, why would this man be watching me. He looked very familiar and I knew I had heard that last name before but I couldn't put my finger on it.
Coach Sterns looked at me and smiled, "I'm glad to finally meet you, I have been watching you out there and have finally decided that I would like to offer you a full ride scholarship to Beach University. There would still be paper work and details to cover before you make the final decision but I just wanted to let you know what could be coming your way very soon."
Oh that's where I had heard this coach's name from...wait did he say Beach University I was speechless, my dream school is coming to me!
So many emotions at one time that I don't even know what to say."Thank you Coach Sterns, I would love to play for Beach University, it has always been a dream of mine." I said with a polite smile, trying to hide how over excited I was.
I couldn't believe this was actually happening but I guess it was, who knew I would ever get a scholarship. Coach Sterns talked about how I will be getting much more information soon about this opportunity. I thanked both coaches and began to walk to my car that Nicole was currently driving.
"How did it go?" She asked as soon as I closed the passenger door.
"You would not believe what just happened, that was the coach from Beach University, he is offering me a scholarship to go and play with them!" I said in an excited squeal.
"This is amazing and totally calls for a celebration!" My best friend said with a smile matching mine.
She drove off as I thought about what my future ahead of me.
••••••••••
After going to stop at our favorite ice cream shop, I drove us home. Of course like girls that we are, we blasted the music and started singing as soon as we got into the car. I made a right onto our street, ironic right, my best friend just so happens to live in the house next to me."Hey, I think they finally sold the house next to yours, look." She said.
I looked and sure enough there was a sold sign in the front lawn.
"I hope the new neighbors are nice, I couldn't stand the other ones." I said pulling into my driveway.
She laughed as she got out of the car and started walking to her house. She turned around and said bye as she walked into her front door.I looked over at the house and wondered who would move in, hopefully it's someone who will bring good to the neighborhood.
