A week had gone by and Vic still didn’t remember anything. On the day Vic woke up, Jenna had ended up going back to Vic’s parents where they were staying and telling them everything that had happened. She then rang Vic’s brother to tell him the news, who then informed Tony and Jaime and they hurriedly came down to see him. Gradually, more and more people found out and from what Jenna had told me, it seemed Vic never really got a moment of peace. Constantly, people were in and out of his hospital ward with flurries of presents and ‘get well soon’ cards and the poor guy had no clue who any of them were. In all honestly, I kinda felt sorry for him, because to him it was like he was spending his time with a load of strangers and that can be awfully uncomfortable.

I had been up to visit him once. I wanted to go more, but I knew I was just another stranger to him and he’d need peace. So then I considered leaving him be completely and not going to visit him, but there was something that told me I had to go at least once. So I did. I’d visited later - close to the end of visiting hours, because I knew by that time there would hardly be anyone around. To my surprise, Jenna wasn’t there. Further to my surprise, Vic seemed kinda happy to see me. I guess I was one of the only familiar faces he’d seen. I expected him to be a bit freaked out like he was during the day of the encounter in the old-abandoned-play-area-that-is-good-for-metaphors, but he wasn’t.

We managed to have a fairly normal conversation. He asked me some questions like ‘how did we meet?’ and ‘is that Jenna girl my girlfriend?’ and ‘how popular is this band I’m in?’ He also wanted to know a little bit more about when we were seventeen, so I told him all that I could remember - minus seventeen year old Tay’s feelings for Vic. After all, I was quite new around San Diego when they left to become famous. He seemed genuinely interested in everything, and I wanted to help him, so I gave him the information he wanted. And when the nurse came to usher me out, insisting that Vic ‘needed rest’, he asked if we could meet up when he was out of the hospital, and I - after forgetting everything I told myself over the past five years about forgetting about them and having nothing to do with them - agreed.

It was a Sunday when Vic got in touch. I was lay on the sofa with my panda blanket wrapped tightly around me, stuffing my face with Doritos and watching the boxset of FRIENDS when my phone began to vibrate on the coffee table. I let out a quiet groan and managed to lean over to grab my phone without falling off. Usually, I’d put the phone down on my lazy days because it’s a day for me to not get interrupted, but I couldn’t bring myself to do it. I pressed the answer button and lifted my phone lazily up to my ear. “Hey.”

“Hey, Tay.” Vic sounded chirpy - a lot different to how he sounded in the hospital. “You still up for meeting up? I’ve been out a few days now.”

“Yeah, definitely.” I said, reaching over for the remote and pausing the TV. “When were you thinking?”

“How about this evening? Sundays are boring, it would give us something to do.” He offered. But it’s my lazy day! I argued with myself. I didn’t seem to be having any of it though because I answered rather happily with a ‘yeah, sure, sounds cool.’

“Where should we meet?” I asked. “And what time? Taylor’s not good with decisions.” I smirked even though he couldn’t see me.

“The beach at eight?” He offered. “I’m presuming you know where that is considering you have more knowledge of this place than me.”

“Yeah, I do. I’ll see you then.” We said our goodbyes and hung up the phone. I reached over to put my phone back on the table, but it didn’t go as smoothly as the first time. I ended up rolling off the sofa onto the floor and landing with a loud ‘thump’. I groaned loudly and caressed my side where I seemed to have hurt the most.
