I finished showering and changed into my flannel pajama pants and a white tank top and looked in the mirror. What I saw shocked me, I saw dull brown eyes staring back at me and lifeless blonde hair - which actually blended in with my pale face. I threw my hair into a messy bun and walked into the living room, to catch up on my favorite series.
As I was about to plop down on the couch, the doorbell rang. I lazily walked to the door and was surprised when I saw none other than the 'Mystery Man'.
"Hi Serena, I hope I'm not disturbing you?" He said nervously. I've never seen a man this good-looking react this way around me before. I noticed that he gave me a once-over and a small blush came across my face.
"Um.. No not at all. How did you find out where I live?" I asked him quizzically.
"I know a guy." He winked, "Can I come inside?"
I was hesitant at first but then stepped aside and allowed him entry. I noticed that he was checking out my apartment and suddenly stopped and his gaze landed on a photo with me and my old high school friends. We all had our arms around eachother's shoulders and huge grins on our faces. It reminded me of so many fun memories that we shared, before I moved away. I felt a little awkward in this situation so I decided to speak up.
"Can I get you something to drink?" I asked fidgeting with the bottom of my tank top.
"No thank you," He politely replied. " I actually needed to talk to you about something."
"Look if this is about last night, I haven't told anybody and I don't plan to." I released in one breath.
He looked physically relieved, "Thank you for that. But, I actually wanted to apologize for leaving so abruptly last night."
"Oh, It's fine. It's understandable, I mean you did get shot so..." I said glancing at his shoulder. "How is your shoulder by the way?"
"It's fine. I was in good hands." He let out a chuckle and ran a hand through his hair, while I let out a small laugh and started blushing when I remembered my hands pressing against his shoulder.
"That's good." I smiled warmly at him. "What exactly happened last night?" I asked barely above a whisper.
"It's a long story."
"I've got time!" I replied quickly.
Just then, his phone received a text message. He read over it and then looked at me with a guilty expression.
"Yeah, but I don't. I need to go." He replied in a hurried tone. "Thank you for letting me come in." He said while walking towards the door.
"So that's it huh? You come into the diner with a gunshot wound and fix it yourself, as if you've done it thousands of time's before and then you just magically appear at my doorstep, without an explanation?"
"Look I'm sorry, it's just really urgent." He said standing in front of my door while reaching out and opening it.
"Well fine, go. It was great meeting you, unfortunately under such terrible circumstances, but I hope that your shoulder gets better!" I paused before concluding "Get home safe!"
"Serena I - "
I didn't hear the rest of his sentence because I slammed the door in his face and walked back to my TV. I was furious. A stranger - whose life I helped save - randomly shows up at my doorstep without even having the courtesy to stay and tell me everything that happened.
I sat on my couch and just watched some TV trying to let off some steam. At least tomorrow will be a new day, I thought.
