Jade tried. But she failed. Before she could stop herself, she let out a big yawn in the front of the entire class.
Mrs Garden who was Jade’s teacher stopped reading aloud from a book and stared out to the class.
‘Who has just yawned when I was in the middle of reading a very important chapter in the book?’ Mrs Garden asked.
The whole class turned to look at Jade who had gone rather red. There was no way that Jade could hide her redness.
Mrs Garden by now had noticed that the class were looking at Jade.
‘Jade! Was that you who yawned?’ asked Mrs Garden.
Jade slowly raised her eyes towards her teacher. By now, Jade was very scared.
‘Yes Mrs Garden, sorry Mrs Garden.’ Jade replied.
Mrs Garden stared at Jade. The girl who she thought was an angel and was kind and helpful. Was in actual fact, able to get bored rather easily.
‘I am very disappointed in you Jade. This is an important part and you felt like it was right to disturb the story in this way. Since you are so bored, why don’t you leave the room then?’ Jade’s teacher replied.
Jade by now had gone rather pale and teary. But in a calm manner, she said.
‘I am not bored Mrs Garden.’
Mrs Garden stared at Jade. This girl was puzzling her.
‘Are you tired or feeling unwell?’ she asked.
‘No Mrs Garden.’ Jade politely replied.
Mrs Garden knew that the girl was too scared about the outcome to say anything else.
‘Stand outside Jade. Wait till the rest of the class has gone.’ Mrs Garden said.
For Jade, this was the last thing she wanted to hear. By now, tears had formed and were now ready to pour out of her eyes.
The whole class were laughing at her. The whole class.
Jade shakily stood up and walked out of the classroom and stood in the corridor.
‘Right then class, after that disturbance. We have fallen behind in the story.’ said Mrs Garden.
Jade stood and watched the parents start to arrive in the playground. She could hear Mrs Garden’s voice but she couldn’t hear the story.
For poor Jade, it wasn’t the first time that she had been sent out of the class for yawning.
