Everyone got up to do their own thing that morning, and you woke up with a rose petal in your hand, and a blanket over yourself. Putting the petal up to your face, you wondered if Kurama's whole body smelled like this. Maybe e--
"____, what do you want for breakfast?!" Shizuru called out from the kitchen. You sighed, put the rose petal in a book you were reading, and headed toward the kitchen. You followed the smells of eggs, toast, and sausage, realizing just how hungry you were. "Well hello there sleeping beauty," Botan said from the counter as you went up to help Shizuru with breakfast. "And here come the other sweet peas!" Yukina and kieko both came into the room rubbing their eyes and yawning. They sat at the bar with blankets draped around their shoulders.
"That movie gave me serious nightmares!" Kieko whined, frowning at the thought.
"Yeah, it wasn't my favorite." Botan agreed, resting her chin on one hand. Shizuru laughed at them, knowing she fell asleep before the start. You started handing out plates and forks then.
"Oh I'm pretty sure you enjoyed it, Botan," You joked. "The way you cozied up to Hiei was kinda cute. I think he might have even turned a bit red!" Botan instantly turned on the defensive, saying it wasn't her fault that she had a fear of green, undead and screaming banshees. Everyone laughed at her awful impression of a scary face.
"And besides, I saw how you and Kurama were right next to me!" Botan retorted crossing her arms. To the girls surprise, they all stared at you.
"I've never known Kurama to have romantic interest," Kieko spoke. Yukina could only giggle at the thought. You and Shizuru sat down at the bar then.
"Oh," You said, trying to act calm. "He just fell asleep on me is all, probably worn out from training." And its not like I was going to argue, you added to yourself. You started stuffing your face to keep from talking anymore.
"Why aren't you at training with the boys today, _____?" Yukina innocently asked. You slowly gulped your food, knowing well the answer to that question. Happy to change the subject though, you said to her,
"Well…uh, Genkai sent me home a day ago because I was too… 'weak' for training." You stared down at your plate. Everyone knew you had high aspirations to fight alongside Genkai's apprentices, and be one, too. Yukina's eyes gave her emotions away, like she had an apology on her mouth, but you stopped her before she could say anything. "It's alright Yukina, Genkai probably has something else planned anyways."
"Oh, that's right!" Shizuru cut in, reaching into her back pocket. "There was a note on the door left for you this morning, _____." She handed it to you, and you could see that it was from Genkai. Your stomach felt like a cannonball just then. You ripped the seal and read out loud, as everyone wanted to know what she had to say.
"_____, please take today to have Yukina and Botan teach you healing techniques. I will train with you in a day. Practice until then." Your spirits lifted a little, Genkai was a great master, but she had a myriad of things to take care of before she could think of taking on another apprentice, and you understood this then. You had only started training a few weeks ago, though you met everyone months ago.
"Alright! Today is gonna be fun!" Botan exclaimed. You couldn't help but grin at how perky she was. Once everyone finished eating, you all headed outside to start the day.
* * *
"Yukina, Yukina!" The girls all turned around as they saw Kuwabara running towards the group waving his hands. Yukina smiled, and her eyes lit up a little more as she saw him arrive. As kuwabara ran up to her, he grabbed her hands and looked straight into her eyes with complete seriousness.
"Yukina my love even as I haven't seen you all day it's felt like years!" He struck a manly pose, flexing his muscles. All the other girls giggled and watched, you especially had to keep in a loud guffawing laugh. "Your man has been off fighting for your safety!!" Shizuru lightly slapped him over the head to stop him from being so obnoxious. You hated it whenever she did that.
"Calm yourself down little bro."
"What have you guys been up to all day?!" You excitedly asked, wondering what you had been missing from training. Kuwabara rubbed the back of his head, though it was nothing compared to what she regularly did. Then you noticed the bruises and marks all over Kuwabara's body.
"Genkai really kicked our butts today, gave us a good amount of hits and cuts actually. She said for us not to heal ourselves though!" Kuwabara plopped down into the grass, right as Yukina had sat down. "But I'm sure my love Yukina could heal me with her kisses!!" Yukina could only laugh as Kuwabara gave her a big fat kissy-face.
"Knock it off, you dope." Just then Yusuke was seen walking into the clearing with the typical attitude, looking forward with his hands in his pockets. Hiei and Kurama were with him. "Genkai told us that _____ was to heal us." Yusuke looked over at you and the surprised expression on your face. "Don't worry, we don't have anything that serious, I think she used us as guinea pigs for your practicing benefit." You couldn't help my show a tiny bit of humor on your face. You glanced at Hiei, as always looking away from everyone, and studied his injuries, then at Kurama. You caught the red-haired demon looking at you then, and before glancing his injuries over you quickly looked away instead.
"Well then, lets get started!" You cheerfully said. "God forbid you have to heal the human way!" The sarcasm in your voice made Yusuke sneer, but the rest of them just laughed. Botan took this as a sign to split.
"Well, I'll leave you to it then _____! The girls and I are off to…. go…. eat!" You quickly turned your heels on her. You were confident you could heal their small injuries, but you always felt more comfortable with her presence around. Giving her a stern glare, you murmured objections that no one else could hear. "That's right we'll see you all tomorrow goodbye now goodbye!!!" Botan pushed Yukina and Kieko with her, both sort of bewildered, and Shizuru just went along with everything.
"But I'm hungry too…." You said to yourself with a frown. Healing practice had taken all of the energy out of you, but you were determined to show Genkai that you were worth something!! Then you heard a strange sound. . . GGGGrrrrrrhhrhrhrrhrrrr. Their stomachs. Everyone was starving. "Sigh, I suppose I'll cook for you guys while I'm at it." Reluctantly saying this made everyone's spirits lift just then.
"Yeah!!!! Let's go I'm starving!!" Before you could begin to walk towards the house Kuwabara and Yusuke had sped off in a race to get to the kitchen. You couldn't help but laugh at their sudden enthusiasm.
"Don't worry, Miss ____, I'll help you out in the kitchen." Kurama, always smiling at you, put a hand on your shoulder for reassurance, and you grinned big. Thank god for his decent manners.
"I'm sure I'll be fine, though I have no doubt in your healing ability, ____." Those were the first and last words Hiei spoke before he shot off into the forest, the sun receding into the horizon. Kurama laughed a little.
"It seems Hiei has warmed up to you a bit."
"Maybe," You halfheartedly agreed, turning back to look at your shack of a home. "So what should we cook tonight, Kurama?" You looked over at him, his face in thought for a second.
"Stew should be good. How about I go start it up while you go heal Kuwabara and Yusuke?" You beamed at Kurama for making such a kind gesture. Cooking for the boys was so much work as they had outlandish appetites.
"You got a deal, Kurama!" You briefly used Kurama's shoulders to make yourself leap a little higher as you ran off to the house. He couldn't help but enjoy your small mannerisms as he watched you disappear behind the screen door.
