Authors Note: PICTURE on the side of Lilac James
Ugh." I groan as my annoying alarm clock rings into my ears as my eyes burn from the morning light. My snarled hair is all over my face, which just deepens my feeling toward me not being a morning person. I toss and turn around and reeaally don't want to leave the warmth of my duvet. But, life must go on. As I unwillingly pull myself out of bed, I realize what today is.
Oh shit, it's the first day of senior year.
Which means the first day of seeing Julia after how many weeks. I couldn't strand my best friend on this day of all days.
Yeah, I know pathetic Lilac, that would be your first thought when waking up.
But this was urgent!
We had a system of picking and dropping each other off. Since she was a bad girl, she got her car taken away often and without her car, she would have had to take the eww, school bus.
That's where I come in. I pick her up every morning to save her from that mess and if I don't, she will have my ass.
I rushed as much as my adjusting body would allow me to. I quickly brushed my pearly whites, braided my hair into a side braid, and carefully shimmied into my carefully thought outfit which I chose last night.
From what you have heard so far, I seem lazy as fuck, but that's just the inside. My school reputation is my top priority and in order to impress, I have to dress. I pull on my fitted cream body dress as well as mint green gladiator shoes and a denim jacket. I knew I looked cute but I checked my mirror just in case.
Makeup was a breeze and I headed downstairs with my backpack and my life essential, my phone.
"Ooh, looking cute hun!"
I almost dropped my phone from shock. In my living room, an all too familiar voice reached my ears.
" What the hell are you doing here Julia, I thought you couldn't drive!" I exclaimed.
"Girl, it's a new school year so I have new goals. And one of them is to become a good girl like your buzzkill ass."
My first reaction was still slight shock from seeing her in my house actually ready before I am, and still looking fashionable.
But then I laughed so much, I'm pretty sure I grew abs. Since I met this girl in preschool, she had been a real savage and I knew she wouldn't change and that's for sure.
"I'm..not..a.. buzzki-..." I said between laughs.
"God damn, L you are so rude and not inspiring me to accomplish my goal." She completed her whine with an unconvincing pout.
" Shut up and drive me to school."
I said sarcastically as my laughs died down.
We both let out soft chuckles and headed out the doorway to her cute buggy.
I didn't need to worry about my parents, if that's what I could even call them. To be honest, I'm fucking filthy rich and all because of Hans and Savannah James. They were both huge in the movie industry both having net worths over a billion. But I could not give a shit because that caused them to leave me to raise myself.
I don't get why people have kids just to not take care of them. What the hell is that?
Anyways, that concluded why they weren't here. In fact, they were probably somewhere around the world enjoying a glass of expensive champagne with a rich couple, completely oblivious that it was my first day of senior year.
Julia and I jumped into the car I missed oh so much. Her skirt fluttered a little bit when she sat down in the car. Like me, my best friend had a great sense of style. She was wearing a velvet red skater skirt matched with a black halter top and gladiators as well. She was wearing Dior sunglasses. May I add, her family like mine are rich as we'll and she happens I have a similar background with her parents that I do. Which is another reason we are inseparable . I fiddled with the radio until I found the rap station. Unlike any other teenage, going through hormone phases girl, I loved rap. It somehow calmed me but also made me feel energized at the same time. But Julia didn't feel the same.
"Keep that wretched sound down! How can I focus when my ears are literally bleeding from pain?"
"You aren't even driving, you idiot." I quickly glanced over to her as she mocked pain from her ears.
We both laughed and headed to Starbucks to grab breakfast before going to school. We quickly ordered then drove the short distance to the building. We finally got there and I wasn't shocked to see that the lot was already jam packed. Somehow, our crappy school had so many newcomers each year, it was ridiculous. But we were finally seniors, so we got reserved parking. I almost jumped for joy when I remembered that and gladly parked the car and stepped out. Julia was still moaning from not wanting to go to school but I was curious to see how many eyes I would attract this year.
"Let's go, you are gonna make us late." I shoved Julia forward with force and she finally gave up and started walking alongside myself.
We took a final breath and then entered the tattered, wooden doors.
I have got to admit, our school was quite nice except for the fact that we had most of our funds go into school instead of sports which is downright stupid. I mean, yeah it's maybe because I suck at school, but which do you prefer, basketball , or learning the volume of basketballs. Easy. basketball.
Right when we entered, all eyes turned on us and I went through the student body. It was literally like an ocean of students.
There were lots of people that were new, along with the same damn creeps who have always stared at me. And then everyone else, I thought to myself.
I, was given the gift of beauty, which many seemed to take notice on the first day of freshman year. I was basically the stereotypical popular girl except with a few minor tweaks. First, I wasn't a blonde. Second, I wasn't a in an it couple relationship, in fact I was very single. Third, I was reasonably nice to people unless they were rude to me, then I became a big, bad wolf. And last, I wasn't feared, in fact everyone was in love with me. Why? I don't know. I was only pretty and good at throwing a ball.
I awkwardly waved hi to about a billion people before finally resuming my path to my locker. I loved changing my lockers because it gave me a comforting feeling and it was conveniently in the middle of the school. I pulled out my new books and placed them in there and found my schedule. Julia and I had already compared ours and we were only in 3/6 classes together. Which fortunately included home room. We skipped together, arms linked. We stepped into the room right when it crowded and I realized the majority of this class population were males, who were all already staring at me. And seductively as well.
Shit.
This is gonna be a hard day.
