I just got our casualty report. We survived the raid, but we didn’t end the war. The base seemed abandoned when we entered it. It was an ambush. Somehow they knew we were coming. That’s twice they pulled that trick on me. This time, it was Bill that lost his life. I watched him die on the doctor’s bed. He said he didn’t regret his death, as long as we won the war because of it. But we didn’t win. I told him we did to comfort him, and he died, at ease with his sacrifice, and believing a lie. The last thing I told him was a lie and he didn’t know it. He didn’t think for a second that I would lie to him. My unit is now at mutiny. The last few loyal members have told me that they are switching sides and that the others plan to take me back to take the fall for them. I must leave them tonight, before they go to sleep, to make my escape. But I am not done yet. Our enemy has fooled me for the last time. What started this war doesn’t matter anymore. War is the remedy that they have chosen, so it’s time I gave them as much as they want!
