I stared at Captain Shooters’ face in shock. How does Bella have anything to do with this war?
“Confused I see. Would you like me to explain?” The captain asked me politely.
”Yes,” I replied coldly, still staring blankly at the man.
“Well, you see, Isabella’s father, Mr Swift, was one of America’s best weapons researchers. And, when he was ‘mysteriously’ captured, all eyes turned to terrorism groups. A month later, Al-Queda sent a secret video to the President, demanding 1 trillion dollars for the release of Mr Swift. The nation of America cannot afford to pay the fee they want, but, we need to get Mr Swift back safe. He was working on a top secret assignment when they captured him. We need him to perfect the prototype of his weapon. It could revolutionize American warfare. So, we created this squad, and we launched an attack on Al-Queda to get our man back.”
I stared at him, nonresponsive. I didn’t realize Bella’s dad was that important! Like, I know he’s pretty cool, and he has an important job. But, that’s. That’s wow.
“So… If you attacked Al-Queda, then, why is the French attacking you? Like, what were they making agreements about?” I asked, trying not to show my confusion.
“Well, because they were making agreements to attack us. To ally with the terrorists. The French, as I said, have always been jealous of our power. They wanted Mr Swift to die. If we didn’t get him back, we wouldn’t be able to create the weapon he is designing. So, the French made agreements with the terrorists, and together, they attacked our base.”
Everything clicked. I finally understood what he meant. Everything but one little thing.
“I still don’t understand. How does this involve me? Why am I here? What use am I to you?”
“Because, we want you to fight. We know you will fight harder, longer, and stronger than any other soldier. Because, you have a personal relationship with him. So, now, I propose the question to you. Do you want to join the National Security Detachment, and fight, in this secret war?”
