As I entered the state-of-the-art building, that was built by only the best architects, and engineers, I saw people stopping and looking at my way and as usual they bowed and greeted me.
"Good morning Mr. Mariano." They chorused.
I acknowledged them by glancing through their faces while I was still walking towards the exclusive elevator that was built for the upper ranks. As I was in the middle of the huge lobby, the people behind me started to go back to their own places to do thier own jobs.
I rode the elevator and pressed the number 33 which is where my office is located. I patiently wait as the elevator moved. I always feel nauseous whenever I ride the elevator but that's better than climbing up the stairs to the 33rd floor.
As the elevator opened I was greeted with the sight of the busy hallway. As I walked towards my office in the end of the hall, the people quickly ran to their posts. Sheesh, they always gossip.
As I arrived inside the confinement of my office I was greeted by my secretary.
"Good morning Mr. Mariano. Your coffee is at your table and so is your tablet with the daily news and magazine for today." Daisy said while smiling.
"What is my sched for today?" I asked and removed my office coat and handed it to her.
"At 9:00, you have a breakfast meeting with Mr. Roscher, at 1:00 with Ms. Eller at the Seabay Hotel, And your mother also called this morning and made an appointment with you this lunch at 12:00 at Golden Star Hotel and Restaurant, that would be all." She said while I was strutting towards my chair.
As soon as I sat down, I immediately told Daisy to prepare everything that I will need for the meetings.
I was busy typing emails and my reports when my phone rang. I looked at the name that is flashing at the screen.
Athena Calling....
[Accept] [Decline]
"What do you need? I'm busy." I said as soon as I picked up.
"Is that how you're supposed to talk to your ate? Wala man lang ba Hi or Hello?" And as usual she said.
"What do you want?" I repeated.
"Well, you know its my birthday next weekend right? I want you to come and its a must. Kapag 'di ka pumunta, hindi na talaga kita kakausapin. So you need to come home to La Consolacion next week and also, Mom really misses you. We miss you na. And oh, I have an announcement to make so you better attend."
"Oh, right..."
"You forgot my birthday didn't you?"
"Well you know how busy I am Athena."
"Pumunta ka sa party ko dahil kinalimutan mo yung birthday ko!"
"I'll try. I'll see if I don't have any important appointments."
"I'm really going to expect you to be there. Oh, and 'wag mo kalimutan 'yung regalo mo sa'kin ah!"
As soon as the call ended I let out a long sigh.
It looks like I'm going home.
