Vera
I ran through the forest, the wind rushing across the scales on my neck, my long black hair flying behind me. I heard the crunching of feet growing louder, I urged myself to go faster. A few feet in front of me, a large black-barked tree towered. I jumped and pushed off my foot, propelling myself upward, grasping the first branch. As I began to pull myself upward, Jarron, a large Norn with a crop of brown hair who served on my families guard since I was young, jumped from the ground landing a few branches ahead of me. Startled, I lose my grip and fall back, just before I hit the ground Peirce, the head of my guard, grabs me and pulls me to my feet, setting me down lightly.
I brush myself off and stare up at Peirce. He had large ears and a bushy tail. For being only a Hybrid, he was exceptionally strong and tall, just slightly smaller than Jarron. His face was broad and dark. Each of his facial muscles highly defined. He looked down on me with cold eyes.
Peirce has been with me since I was young, and I knew that even though he was dissatisfied with me, he would no sooner forgive me than scold me.
I smiled up at him, batting my green eyes. His face molded into a slight smile. "Vera, you cannot just go off running into the woods. You were in the middle of class, you gave your poor teacher a startle." His voice was soft, as it has always 0been with me.
"I grow bored with my classes. Why must I sit for hours in my day learning about the past or arithmetic? When will it help me in life?" I question, examining a strand of my hair.
"You are a Noble and will someday marry a Lord and perhaps a Prince. Whichever it is, you will need to know the history of your land." Peirce says to me. "Let us head back, Mi' Lady."
"Well I need to know history, sure fine, but that is only one of my classes, what about arithmetic or science?" I question as we make our way back to the castle.
"I cannot explain to you why, all I can say is you must." He chuckles as our feet crunch on the forest floor.
