Harry’s POV

“Hey.”

“What’s wrong, Harry?”

I was sat at the most secluded table of a café with Wendy. I’d asked her to come and meet me there. Liam had taken the day off as he wasn’t feeling great so now was probably the best chance I would get to do this tactfully.

“I…I don’t think…I think we should end things.” I finally got out. She stared at me for a minute, trying to understand where this was coming from.

“Why?” she finally asked. I sighed.

“I just…I don’t think its really working anymore. We barely see each other-”

“Cut the crap, Harry. We both know that’s bullshit. We didn’t even live in the same town yet we managed to make it work. And now you’re saying we barely see each other? Don’t treat me like an idiot, Harry.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I just…I don’t really feel it anymore, you know? That extra thing…it’s just…it’s not the same. I love you, but not in the same way.”

Wendy nodded. “Cool. See you around, Harry.” she moved to leave.

“Wendy, wait!” I exclaimed. She stopped and watched me expectantly. “Are we actually cool?”

She smiled. “I said I’d see you around, didn’t I?”

She placed a five-pound note on the table before getting up and walking off. I stared at the note without really seeing it. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. Just like that, I was single. Yet I didn’t feel free, I felt disgusting. I had just broken up with this amazing girl because I’d found someone better. I loved Wendy – I had definitely been in love with her at some point and I would’ve loved to go back to that place. But I couldn’t deny my feelings for Zayn. The moment I’d opened the front door was the point of no return. I could never go back to being in love with her. I knew that I cared far too much for him to continue my relationship with Wendy; it wasn’t fair on her.

I stood up and left the café in a bit of a daze. I wasn’t used to being single. Just before I stepped through the door, the waitress blocked my path and smiled up at me. I looked down, only just realising how pretty she was.

“Was everything alright for you?” she asked. I nodded. She grinned.

“Well if there’s anything else I can get you..” she said coyly, twirling her hair.

“No, I think I’m good.” I smiled.

“Okay then. Come back soon!” she giggled and waved, stepping aside for me to pass. I stepped out and pulled on my jacket. As I walked along the street my thoughts returned to the café. Strange how I hadn’t even noticed the waitress until I was single. And thinking about it, I’d never really noticed anyone when I was with Wendy. The only exception was Zayn. Zayn had been in my mind before Wendy, and was still there after. He had quite literally rocked my world.

I had been wandering aimlessly through the London streets but eventually I found myself at the door to Niall’s flat. It had been a while since I had spent time with him and today felt like the perfect day to make amends.

I pressed down on the doorbell and from inside came a grunt, shuffling of feet and some rapid stringed curses. I felt a small smile creep onto my face; nothing could change my wonderfully Irish friend.

“Whaddya want?” he grumbled.

“To talk.”

Niall stepped aside, letting me in.
