*Jordans POV*
It was a warm sunny day in Ottawa as I pulled back the curtains in my hotel room. I yawned as the bright rays of sun shined across my skin. I grabbed my phone from the night stand table and unlocked it. I clicked the text app and quickly sent a message to my best friend Angelina. I assumed she was still sleeping so I locked my phone and sat it down on the table. I decided to take a cool shower. I grabbed a towel from the rack and turned on the taps. Suddenly I heard a distant buzzing, realizing it was my phone I shuffled my way back to the night stand as best as I could in only a towel. Picking up my phone I noticed it was Angelina, I smiled reading her text.
J: Hey J
A: Hi Jordan! I know you probably thought I was still sleeping but no I’m awake and I’m already ready to leave! I was so nervous I barely slept but it’s okay because I’m hyped up on excitement. I swear I won’t fall asleep on you J
I chuckled at her excitement but all I was feeling was nerves. They day of the draft came so quick I barely realized this was the day. My parents, my sisters, Angelina, and I had all taken a plane to get to Ottawa for the 2008 NHL Draft today. My parents were so happy for me but they knew how nervous I got. They would probably be here soon so I told Angelina I had to get ready and that I would come knock on her door as soon I was done.
I showered in 10 minutes and got out to put on my new suit mum had bought me. I slid on my trousers and dress shirt buttoning up the cuffs. I carefully pulled my lucky tie out of my bag. It was the one I bought with my first WHL check. It was light burgundy with silver coloured waves through it. I slipped it around my neck and made a knot. I wasn’t always the best at tying ties but I soon had it looking perfect. I put my black suit jacket over top and slipped my shoes on. I grabbed my phone and anything I may need and left my hotel room. I walked down to room 301 and knocked on the door. Angelina opened it a few seconds later. She was wearing a black skirt that was kind of tight and went down to mid-thigh. Her shirt was a plain light blue but she pulled it back in a way that made it look rather fancy. She was wearing her dog necklace she got from her mother some time ago. I knew that one was her favourite. She grabbed her little purse and came out closing the door behind her.
“Are you ready to go meet your parents?” she asked, smiling at me.
“As ready as I’ll ever be” I said.
We got into the elevator and went down to the lobby where my parents and my sisters were waiting. We all piled into my dad’s rental car and he drove towards the Scotiabank place. I tapped my foot nervously, something I had done all my life. I felt Angelina softly place her hand on my knee.
“Jordan. Stop” was all she said and then turned looking out her window.
I took a couple of deep breaths, I knew today would be good as long as I remembered hockey was part of my life no matter what. If I didn’t get drafted this year I could always try again. Just keep playing. I shook those thoughts out of my head as we arrived at the arena. I could feel my back beginning to sweat and I quietly groaned hoping you couldn’t see it through my shirt. As we walked towards the front doors my hands started sweating as well. I made a plan that as soon as I got in I was heading to the restrooms to try and calm myself down.
*Angelina’s POV*
I could tell how nervous Jordan was, he hadn’t stopped tapping his foot the whole car ride even when I told him to stop. I noticed that, as soon as we got in he headed to the restroom not saying anything and rubbing his hands down his dress pants. God he was going to make them all greasy looking.
As soon as he came out we made our way into the arena, and went up to section 116. We took our seats as all the NHL teams, scouts, managers, and coaches took their places at their designated tables. Out of the corner of my eye I saw Jordan rub his hands on his thighs.
