Chapter Ten.

I spent most of the day at the beach with Luke talking about our dysfunctional families and sharing some life experiences we've been through, both good and bad. I would've never imagined how much I'd enjoy his company and how easy it is to actually talk to him.

My phone's screen told me it was already eight, the sky was dark and the weather was chilly. When I opened the door to my apartment, my mother was sitting on the couch, watching television. But she wasn't alone. She was with Roxy and Charley.

"Charley?" I call for him and he turns to look at me. I was confused. I don't remember I was supposed to be expecting him here. "What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to hang out with you but you weren't here so I stayed with Bernadine and Roxy," he tells me and I feel extremely guilty. "Where were you?"

"Yes, where were you?" My mother asks, standing up. She didn't look so happy but I know she wasn't the type to get extremely furious and snap at me, she only gets worried.

"I'm going to go, I've been here for too long already and I have to help my mom with something, I'll see you tomorrow." I nod at him. He approaches and grabs both sides of my face, placing a warm kiss on top of my head before leaving.

"I'm going to sleep," says Roxy, standing up. "Good night, my ladies."

"Good night," both, me and my mom say before sitting next to each other on the couch.

"So," my mom begins, "are you finally telling me where were you?"

"I'm sorry. I forgot to tell you I wasn't coming home after school. I was at the beach with Luke."

"Luke, huh?" She wiggles her eyebrows. "Why the beach though?"

"It's kind of a long story," I tell her and she looks at me as if telling me she has time. "Last night, when I escorted Luke to his apartment, his twin brother was there."

"Oh no..." She says.

I'm lost here.

"You knew about Mason?"

"Yeah, Lorraine told me a while ago," she tells me. "What happened?"

"Luke was furious, especially when Mason started talking to me. He didn't say anything wrong, but whatever he said to me seemed to upset Luke even more so he asked me to come back here. I spent all night thinking about it and worried about what might've happened when I left."

"That explains the bags under your eyes," I nod. "Still, why the beach?"

"Luke didn't go to school today because he didn't trust Mason alone at his apartment, but he showed up when classes were over and took me to the beach to explain everything to me. The beach is where he always goes to calm down, it means something to him and he wanted to share it with me."

"Why would he do that? Why you?" I shrug.

"I asked him the same question. He said he doesn't know yet."

"Yet?" I nod. "Sounds to me like Luke is developing some feelings for my baby girl."

"He's not," I laugh. "I highly doubt it. Besides, he has a girlfriend."

"What if he didn't?"

"He just does." I say, standing up, not wanting to talk more about the subject.

"I talked to Robbie today," this immediately captures my attention, forcing me to take my seat again. "You know, about coming with Lilly."

"What did he say?"
