Anakin and Padmé had just gotten married at the Varykino Lake Retreat in Naboo's Lake Country. Threepio and Artoo were the only attendees at the wedding as it was a forbidden marriage.
As the wedding was finally over, they arrived at their newly-bought house. Anakin carried Padmé into their bedroom, bridal style; and laid her on their bed. He got onto the bed and pressed his lips passionately against Padmé's. He pulled up the covers and fell into an uneasy sleep as something started to slowly prod at the back of his mind...
They were in Polis Massa as Padmé was about to go into labour. Anakin could see the pain and fear in her eyes so he offered her hand a reassuring squeeze. As soon as the baby's first cries were heard, the medical droid held the baby out for Padmé.
"Luke," she gasped out, tears streaming down her face as she tried to regain her composure.
Soon she felt pain again, and Anakin squeezed her hand tightly as to provide comfort and assurance that it will be over soon. Another baby's cries rung out and the medical droid carried the baby.
"Leia," she gasped again, tears were starting to sting at her eyes.
The medical droid gave her the twins and she lovingly cradled them in her arms. She smiled softly at them and Anakin.
She gave Anakin the twins so he could finally hold his children in his arms as the medical droid returned to Padmé to conduct a health checkup.
Anakin waited outside with the twins and played with them, causing them to coo at him. "Hey Luke and Leia..." he smiled back softly at them.
Then, the medical droid returned to Anakin and told him gravely, "Padmé's perfectly healthy, but we don't know why we're losing her."
Upon hearing that, Anakin felt as if his heart had skipped a beat and rushed in the room with the twins nestled in his arms.
There she was, fighting to stay alive as she muttered her last words to him,
"Promise me that you will take good care of them, Anakin. I will always love you and I'll never forget you."
Anakin grasped her hand tightly as he cried out in despair, "No! Padmé, please! Don't leave me! I can't live without you! I can't take care of them myself! Please hold on! I love you! Padmé... Don't go..."
Tears trickled down his cheeks as he remained like this, holding her hand. But soon the medical droid had to pull him away, and he finally released his wife's limp hand.
Anakin jolted awake, sweating from head to toe. He looked at Padmé, and thankfully she was sleeping peacefully. He brushed some strands of hair off her face as she stirred slightly in her sleep.
She looks so beautiful when she's sleeping... Anakin thought.
Then his thoughts returned to his nightmare. He wasn't gonna let Padmé die. He wasn't ready for any of that. No, it isn't true. It's just a nightmare. He tried to push away the disturbing thoughts that haunted him.
He got out of bed and walked out to the balcony to clear his head. He looked into the night sky. The weather is perfectly warm and the sky is so beautiful, Anakin thought.
Meanwhile, Padmé woke up and discovered that Anakin wasn't in bed. She got out of the bedroom and found him standing at the balcony.
"Anakin, what's the matter? Are you alright?" she asked, worried. She predicted that he had a nightmare, but she wasn't sure.
"I'm fine." he lied flatly. He didn't need his wife to worry about him. "I just need to gather my thoughts." he tried to persuade her, after all he wasn't really lying.
"Ani, when are we gonna be honest with each other? I know you're not alright! There's something bothering you." she protested.
"Okay, you win... I had a nightmare." he mumbled under his breath.
"So what's this one about?" she asked, piquing her curiosity.
"Well, you had twins, and then you died mysteriously." he explained briefly as he fought tears. He needed to let it all out.
"Oh, Ani... There's nothing to worry about. I promise it won't happen." she reassured, trying to calm her poor, worried husband.
She offered him a hug to reassure him. Anakin returned the hug, caressing her as tears rolled down his cheeks.
Please, please, please let this just be a nightmare and not a premonition...
