Friday

"Mr. Malik, could you stay for a while?", Mr. Payne asked when I was about to step out of the class. I turned around and faked a smile. "What's up?", I asked and he looked up from the papers he was reading. He looked around the room and waited for everyone to leave. "What happened to your face?", he asked standing up from his chair. "Nothing, I'm just ugly", I said biting my lower lip gently. He walked to me and I kept the eye contact. He grabbed my shirt from my chest and pushed me against the wall. I groaned and looked down.

"Zayn, look at me", he said and I looked up. "Don't ever fucking say that again", he said pushing me to the wall. "Stop", I said and tried to push him away. He pinned my arms over my head and I winced a little when he placed his hands on my wrists to keep them against the wall. "What's that?", he asked looking at my wrist and I pulled my arms from his grip. "Don't fucking touch me again", I said through gritted teeth and pushed him off of me. I walked out of the class, pulled down my sleeve which slipped up and rubbed my wrists. "Language!", I heard him yell after me and I chuckled. I headed to the front door.

I took my phone from my pocket and dialed Louis' number. "Hello", he said. "Meet me at the back", I told him. "Got it", he said hanging up and I walked out of the front doors. I walked around the school to the back and saw Louis leaning on the wall with one foot up against it. I pocketed my phone and walked up to him. "Hey", he said with a smile and I nodded. I fished a cigarette from my pocket and lit it. I leaned against the wall next to Louis and breathed in smoke from the cig.

I breathed the smoke out with a little moan. "Do you wanna talk about it?", Louis asked and I looked at him. "Nah, I'm fine", I told him and he nodded. He sucked on his cancer stick and I looked ahead of me. When I was halfway done with the cig, I spotted a teacher and I knew he spotted us too. "Fucking hell", I mumbled and took one last smoke from the cigarette and dropped it on the ground. I breathed out the smoke and stepped on the stub.

"Mr. Tomlinson, Mr. Malik", he said walking to us. "Detention for the both of you today after school", he spoke and I nodded. "It's in the room 103 and I really hope you go there", he said and I nodded again. "What's that?", he asked. "Sure", I said. "Sure what?", he asked and I chuckled. "I'm not gonna call you sir if that's what you're waiting for", I said and pushed myself off of the wall. "See you around Max", I said and started to walk off with Louis. "It's Mr. Cooper for you", he yelled after us and I chuckled.

"Feeling better, Zaynie?", Louis asked and I nodded. "Yea, thanks", I said and he smiled. "Are you actually going to the detention?", he asked. "I don't know", I said with a chuckle and he nodded. We walked in the school and headed to our last class. We stepped in the class and walked in the back. We sat next to each other and took our phones out. I zoned out until the bell rang and pocketed my phone. We walked out of the class with Louis and I nodded to him with a little smile.

"I'll see you tomorrow?", he asked and I nodded. "See you Tommo", I said and we left our separate ways. I headed to the detention because I didn't want to go home yet. I walked in the class and saw Mr. Payne. I sat to the front desk and took out my phone. "Mr. Malik, what brings you here?", he asked and I looked up from my phone. "Smoking", I said and he nodded. "And where's your partner in crime?", he asked and I chuckled. "He didn't feel like coming", I said and looked down to my phone again.

Mr. Payne walked to me and took my phone from me. "Hey", I said and he shrugged. "No phones in detention", he said and I groaned. "Why did you come, you usually skip detention?", he asked and I kept my eyes on him as he sat on his chair. "I rather be here than home", I said and cursed myself in my head as soon as I said it. "Because I would have to clean my room", I said quickly and Mr. Payne nodded.

"I wanted to tell you that I'm sorry", he said and I raised my eyebrows. "For what happened after English today", he said and I nodded. "It's none of my business, I know, I was just worried", he said and I nodded again. "It's not a big deal, it's just a black eye", I told him. "Who did it?", he asked. "Some jerk who I got in a fight with, not a big deal", I said and he nodded believing my story. "Can I write?", I asked. "Technically no but because I'm your English teacher, sure", he said and I nodded with a small smile.

I took my notebook and pen from my backpack and started to write. "What do you write, if you don't mind me asking?", he asked and I looked up from my notebook. "Uh, just like songs and all that", I said and he nodded. "Can you read me something?", he asked and I shrugged. "I mean they are supposed to be songs, so they are supposed to be sang", I said and he nodded. "Can you sing me some?", he asked and I bit my lip. "Uh sure", I said looking through the notebook for something good enough.

And being here without you
Is like I'm waking up to
Only half a blue sky
Kind of there but not quite
I'm walking round with just one shoe
I'm half a heart without you
I'm half a man at best
With half an arrow in my chest
I miss everything we do
I'm half a heart without you

I looked up at Mr. Payne and he nodded. "That's good, sad but good", he said and I shrugged. "Who is it about?", he asked. "It doesn't matter", I said closing the notebook and licked my lips. "Yea, of course", he said. I put my notebook and pen back in my backpack and got up. "Detention is over, right? So i can go?", I asked walking towards the door. "Zayn", he said and I turned around. "Your phone", he said holding it up. "Yea, of course, sorry", I said and walked to him.

"You know, you can talk to me whenever you want", he said and I nodded. "Nah, I'm fine, thanks", I said and took my phone from him. "Okay, I'll see you Monday", he said and I nodded. "See you", I said and walked out of the class.
