“We yield to death through weakness of will. It banishes our soul into the great emptiness and whatever lies beyond. But what if one human soul could draw upon the power of another and live for all eternity.”

“The illness of the Black Death is taking me.”

“One day it must take you too.”

“It is the price of our power.” Liegia said to her daughter as she lay on her deathbed.

~Years later~

“Many of the important writers and poets of the late 18th and early 19th century. By name Bryan, Keith, Haul were the influence to my work. They shared a passion for the Mackal they also had another thing in common, their quest to find absolute beauty. A thing of beauty is the joy forever. It’s loveliness increases, it will never pass into nothingness. Keith also wrote “Thou was not born for death an mortal bird no hungry generations tread thee down.”

“But I-I won’t tread this generation down with the longer lecture let’s go to lunch.” Jonathan Merrick said to the students and the applauded him. Chancellor Berris walked over to Jonathan and said “Nice to see you get that kind of enthusiasm out of them.” They both just looked at each other and laughed. Jonathan then took a look around and saw that a young lady dressed in all black sitting there looking at him.

“Hey can I ask you something?” Jonathan asked Chancellor Beris.

“Yeah anything.” the chancellor said looking at Jonathan.

“You see that lady sitting in there in all black, she’s been to almost all of my lectures more than 200 miles away.” he said with a little chuckle.

As the chancellor turned to look at her, she got up like she sensed that they were talking about her and she exited the class. Then the chancellor replied “Yeah she’s one of ours. She’s a grad student in Comparative Religion.”

“Wait, did you say grad student?” Jonathan asked.

“Yes what did you think she was one of our young bookies.” the chancellor said with a little laugh.

“Don’t forget I’m engaged Len.” Jonathan said.

“Aren’t we all?!” the chancellor said.

They both laughed and proceeded to exit the class.

“I’m going to see you at the Faculty Club tomorrow right?” Len said.

“Hell yes. I’ll be there.” Jonathan said while he laughed.

They both said their good byes and went their separate ways. Jonathan was on his way to his car when he saw the young lady, and he ran over to her. “Excuse me miss.” he said while he ran to her side.

“I’ve seen you in almost all of my lectures. You stalking me or something?” Jonathan said and that was when he noticed her true beauty. She was absolutely stunningly beautiful.

“What can I say your books fascinate me.” Liegia said with a smile and her perfect Russian accent.

“But aren’t you a grad student in Comparative Religion?” Jonathan said.

“Now who’s the stalker?” she said.

“Oh no the chancellor just told me.” he said trying to get his thoughts together.

“Mystism is more like it.” she said staring deep into his eyes.

He just looked at her astonished. Then he asked her “So are you coming to the Faculty Dinner?”

“Are you inviting me?” she said with a little laugh.

“No no…….” he began to say when she cut him off. “Regretting your decision already?” she asked.

“What no.” he replied.

“Ok so I’ll wear something…… sexy!” she said in a seductive tone.

“Here’s my card Professor Merrick. You’ll need it.” she said.

And with that being said she left him standing there in a daze.
