This world is dying, while I struggle to survive. It's been years since a nuclear missile cleared out the city of where I've been living...then the whole world. Everything's dying...nothing but crashed buildings, a lot of smoke, dark, cool atmosphere, grasslands, forests, and even others. I grew up emotionless, not giving a damn on other things. I've trained myself to get stronger, I've been traveling to find shelter, food, water. Lately, I'm running low on food, and no shelter to find, I've been camping everywhere.
Now, I'm in the middle of nowhere in the grasslands. Walking around, expecting to find food, or shelter, or even a person to help me. Usually, I'm better off alone, I can't trust most people these days. While my mind was driving off, I heard a small rustle of grass. Going nearer where the sound was. I saw a white rabbit. Quietly, I took out my bow and arrow. I aimed at the rabbit, getting ready to shoot, and then it moved. I quietly followed it until it stops. I aimed, then I shoot. The rabbit made a dying noise, squeaking. I went to get the rabbit's corpse and put it in my bag, and so as my bow and arrow.
I walked more, not in the mood to eat yet, can't even find wood to burn. And then I realized I was nearby a forest. With giant, big ass trees. Like those ones in a manga I was reading when I was younger. While approaching to the forest, I saw a kid, a boy with dark brown hair, slightly tanned skin and teal eyes, white shirt with a brown jacket and brown pant and leather shoes, younger than me, playing by himself with a toy robot. Those things still exist? It's colors were fading, metallic parts having rust, dirty as hell with small holes. I hesitated going to him and talk or ask. But I had to, he can't be here all alone. I walk up to him calmly so I won't scare him off.
"Hey kid," I said. "Why are you all alone out here?" He flinched and quickly looked back, facing me. Judging by his face, he's terrified. I try to make my voice soothing so he won't be scared. And I asked him again. "Kid, why are you out here? It's dangerous." I said in a calm voice.
"I-I asked my parents if I c-could go outside and play..." by his voice, he's still terrified. "Kid, if you're going outside, don't go far off. Mostly when you're out here in the grasslands." I said to him. I don't know why I was caring. He calmed down a little bit, but he still looks uncomfortable, nervous about seeing me. There was an awkward silence between us...until.."I-I'm sorry!" He said, and he ran off to the forest. I let him run off farther, thinking where he's going. Wait...he said he has parents. Maybe they have a house? I went where the kid ran off to, following which path he took. While walking to where that brat what was going to, I saw a straight road and a small light emitting from a distance, but I continued to follow that kid. As I go deeper into the forest, I see bigger trees above me, remembering one of the scenes in a manga I read when I was younger, with those maneuver-ing things.
While running where the brat went to, I saw him walking around slowly, looking around as if he was lost. I walk up to him, he's facing away from me. And I called him. "Hey brat!" I called out. He flinched again and looked back at me. And I ask him again. "You lost?" I asked. Then he looked down and slowly nodded. I kneel down and look at his face, his eyes were watery, as if he was going to cry. And then, he started sniffling. "I-I really want to go h-home...*sniff*..it's really dark here..*hic*..I'm scared..*sniff*..."
For a boy like him, he should be pretty brave, but he's weak, judging by his height. Just being alone out here makes him cry. Looks like I can't leave this brat here. I should better off help him get home."Kid, what does the path look like when you're heading to your house?" I asked. He immediately shook his head up to look at me, taking a hint that I'm helping him. "A-a straight road.." he stuttered. A straight road? I somehow remembered a sight of a straight road with a small light emitting from a distance while following this kid. Looks like he forget where to go, or he was just too careless too look first and go.....or he's just so scared...of me, he ran and ran and got lost...
"Kid, you took the wrong path." I reluctantly said. "I saw that road while following you. But, was there a light farther away in that road?" I asked. Then he shyly nods. I stand back up, and started to walk away. I hear soft rustles of grass being stepped on, noticing the boy followed me when I looked back at him."Umm..do you know the way?" He asked. And I nod. A small smile goes up his face while he started clinging onto me. He's he really small, his head is just exactly at my legs. I gaze up to the high trees, bunch of rays of sunshine spreads everywhere, I lost track of time. I don't know if it's still morning, or afternoon. We walk more until I stopped at the start of a straight road, grabbing the arm of the brat, making him look to me as he noticed the road. A wide grin goes across his face and started to go down the road, and he stops, looking back at me with a curious face.
"Onee-chan" he said. Did he just called me that? He can speak Japanese? "Are you coming?" He asked. I was surprised, as my eyes widen. He looks like he's not scared anymore. He just looks normal. "Are you sure you want me to come?" I ask. He nods. "Since you helped me, I thought I could pay back for what you did." Huh, this kid knows more than me when I was his age. "Brat, I you don't need to." I said. Then he started to run back at me and begged. "Please?"
"Like I said, you don't need to, you'll get yourself in trouble." I said. Then he tried to strike me with what they call "puppy eyes". I was unamused. "Pleeeeaaase? Please, please, please, please?" He begged and begged. This brat won't shut up unless I agree. ".......fine." I said in a deep voice. "Finally!" The brat yelled and I flinched by the noise. Then he grabs my hand and started to drag me down the road. I sigh, probably being tired...even if I I did get rest, I'm still restless. And still...not knowing if....
I'm dreaming or not...
